Admittedly not on the water and no gear was harmed (except for my noggin) I was wondering if the following qualifies as an Elmo?
After getting pressured into putting up our Xmas light street display I thought I would clean up the lawns, edges etc in the process. I had pretty much filled up one giant wheelie bin with clippings, palm fronds etc.
I was wheeling it down a path outside my place with the lid open and hanging down. As I went over a step the bin dropped and I struggled to hold it.
I then proceeded to tread on the big lid, tripped and ended up kneeling down on the lid going downhill and accelerating. 
The bin then impacted with the side of our house, I threw out my arms to minimise impact, miised and my hands and arms ended going into the grass clippings inside the bin which let the top of my melon impact with the sharp bin edge. 
I sat there stunned a bit, then looked around to see if any of my neighbours saw my stupidity. Nothing.
I then gingerly felt my head which was now bleeding profusely. After some colourful language my wife and daughter came out to see what the fuss was about.
Can you beleive it?, the buggers laughed.

No the term "Elmoing" is used to describe the destruction of kit on the first use.
All the other creative means of hurting yourself and damaging kit is just being a "Muppet"

Got to admit it was the kinda thing I would (and have done)
Got to admit I laughed as well.
So you don't feel bad my best bit of "Muppetism" involved me carrying a sheet of masonite out of a hardware shop on a windy day.
My wife (then girlfriend) was concerned about the wind, nah no prob's I had a good hold on it, stepped out from between the cars which were shielding me from the breeze when a gust came ripping down the carpark.
Now at this stage I can say without doubt (contrary to what the Mythbusters reckon) that if you weigh 63kg's (yes I was once that light) and a strong enough gust of wind hits you whilst you have said piece of masonite above your head You will fly.
I did past 3 cars, only stopping when I came into contact with a very firmly bolted in place towbar (fark that hurt) but i did hold onto the masonite which kept the pressure on my nicely bruising shin.
My beloved and the shop keeper eventually offered sympathy when they could breath properly again after stopping laughing.
Ooohh, that smarts. I can nearly feel the pain. Admittedly, Im giggling at your tale too!!
At least everyone has found my tale of mis-adventure amusing.
Pete, if they had of offered me a beer that wouldve made me feel better.
And if I hadve done it AFTER beer I wouldnt look so stupid.
