Josh Angulo is now on MauiSails!
It was always going to be a big task to fill the void left by Kevin Pritchard, but they've more than achieved the job!
With Cabo Verde just a few weeks away (Josh's home break) and some of the other riders signed up over the break, MauiSails could be off to a great start to the PWA season.
Look out Kauli... and the Slalom boys might get a shock as well!
i don't know what went down between kevin and maui sails.. but they took all his stuff including the booms .. which were his creations.. so they sound like pricks to me.. but i don't know the full story
Sounds good to me.
There is always some friction in the creative department of any company!! but Kp only knows why he left. and of course he can't take his gear with him! He's getting all new stuff from Gaastra
The PWA site has some pics of the Gaastra stuff that turned up at KP's place while he was away.
The write up around it says he asked for 2 of everything and thats what they supplied. No way he needed the Maui sails stuff.
His gear belongs to Maui Sails once he made the decision to leave they simply collected their property.

You'll also see on his blog site that he went down to Hi Tech on Maui and bought himself a MauiSails carbon boom.
Gaastra and Neil Pryde were giving him gear to try out for free and he went out and paid for a MauiSails boom!
Gaastra was his choice for the free stuff, but MauiSails is clearly the only brand he was prepared to put his money where his mouth is.
yeah he bought the boom because he is the one who developed it and he thinks it is the best.. he also said that he pretty much did it off his own back and something else that i took to say that he funded the development..
you would have thought they would have left him with some stuff. as it was second hand and they arn't going to make any money from selling it..
and because he isn't sponsored doesn't mean he can't use the equipment.
Why do you people care about a bunch of booms. He wouldn't have owned them.
Also to 'Leech',
why do you call Barry a 'w@nker'? He has been an integral part of the developement of this sport since day one. Without his knowledge, creativity and willingness to share his skills with people many of the big names in windsurfing would not have made their names so easily. Barry is one of the best guys you could hope to meet. No need to slur his name on a public forum. If you actually know him, well sure, call him that to his face but why put it on this forum. HTFU.
Having met Barry Spanier many times over the years in Maui and here he is definitely not a ****er. A very intelligent and articulate bloke who knows a thing or two about sail design. Eg/ Dunkerbeck, Mcgain, the Pritchards, Bringdahl etc etc. All world titles on his designs.
Goes out of his way to help anybody and is very laid back.
You wouldnt see Micheal Schumacher still driving a Ferrari if he swapped to Mclaren would you. The team bosses would make sure and out of professionalism he wouldnt either.
Only Kevin knows why he left and when he started scoping out new product and sponsors to start afresh why would the guys at Maui Sails let him continue using their gear when is he leaving??
And if you think because the gear is used it wont sell you can be sure to find selling very shortly on Rigmaster.
It is all hearsay wp developed the boom and who put what money into Maui sails but it is a business and when partners/employees want to split there is a clean definin moment of seperation. KP has moved on and Maui sails moves on. New season new opportunities for both. It is just sensationalism to start drumming up friction and conspiracy that is likely not to exist. Like Larko I know these guys very well and i have the utmost respect for them and the brand they have created. After the split I chose to stay with Gaastra because I wanted a good board brand as 60% of my sales were boards and I couldn't really do both gaastra and Maui, so I made my decision and thats it although I would have loved to work with the team I made an economic decision. Kp may have also done the same!!
It does sound strange that one person in a company puts in all the money for the development of one product, so I would have to agree with you there.
I met Barry, Phil and the Pritchard brothers several years ago on Maui and all of them are really good blokes who are very approachable and down to earth. Can't really understand why anyone would have a dig at them.
At the end of the day KP is still making a living from windsurfing and from what his blog says, he's loving life just he was before... it's all good!
I hope KP does really well with his new sponsors and on the PWA... just not as well as Josh!
maybe australians shouldn't read american or euro forums as the replies usually appear like they are from the fkn messiah! big fkn whoopee to all of them.
in the nicest possible way of course. ![]()
