This just in...apparently "no kitesurfing" signs have recently been placed along the beaches! (All the beaches, or just along the East Coast? I'm not sure yet). But I like it so far! Another triumph for Singapore's no-nonsense government! No more morons launching and crashing their kites in front of the windsurfing club, at least!
I'll post photos soonish.

;) ;)

Might be because a section of East coast parkway is on the approach to Changi airport.

Would anyone (poledancer or kiter) really care? Even if it was true.
The place has crap wind, why would you want to save money for a windy holiday to that place is beyond me.
The best spot to go, on the one day of the year they may get a flukie wind, is called "stinky bay" , yeah, sounds real inviteing.

What is the speed record of the sailing club??????????? I heard they just broke the 9 knot mark

I'm taking my small kit over.....121l isonic and 8.7m race sail.

You may need to invent a 18m sail and a 1000liter board if you want to dance more than 3 days a year.

If you like waves like Perth has,,,,,,,,your out of luck,,,,,Perths waves look like G'land compared to Singapore

Have fun.

*Ahem* Sounds like you guys are slightly misinformed about Singas. True, on any given day, if you go down to the beach it will probably be blowing about 3 knots. But, you'd be surprised how often the wind actually picks up to 10-14 knots, sometimes up to the 15-18 range, and occasionally we get proper honking 20 and over sessions too. The trick is to know when it's going to blow, catch a quick session (more than an hour or two is rare), then pack up and go home smiling. If you don't understand the local weather, you'd have to wait all day at the beach for a chance to sail. The internet is a big help now; there are a few sites that we rely on, plus there's always somebody at the beach you can contact by phone for a first-hand appraisal. People windsurf here (I mean actually get planing) several days a week, just about the whole year round, except for a few inter-monsoon "doldrum" periods where it blows less often.

All in all it's not so bad! Forget about waves, though...but it's a short flight to Bali!

Bluedog! Now you're talking! Come on over and smash the record! It's currently a weeny 30kts, set by a poncy euro...but GPS speeds here are more a case of catching the right conditions than actually being good...it's a lottery, really! He who buys more tickets, has the better chance.

Lotofwind - What is this "stinky bay"? Never heard of it!! ;-) Where did you learn abot this? Maybe that was a place that existed back in the 80s, and has since been a victim of land reclamation? Hmmmm...

funny b@st@rds... LOL

if nothing else...it's a great place to sail Formula!

Beats me why people try to kite here, though. At least with a big sailboard, u can go for a light-wind sail, and/or float back in when the wind drops. The kiters go to the beach, inflate their kites...and sit around for hours waiting for a breeze. Then they kite for a few minutes until their kites fall into the sea! LOL

Believe it or not the majority of laws in Singapore are established for the greater benefit of it's citizens at large. Yes, some of them are quite questionable but the same can be said about the majority of laws in Australia. Even worse the majority of laws in this country seem to be laid out to line the pockets of the rich... not for the greater benefit of it's citizens.
