I don't have any experience with kiteng yet but I have ingenious idea for windsurfers in nearest future.
Suppose somebody ( could be even Windsurfer as kiters seem not that bright) will invent self flying kite at pre - programmed angle to the wind.
Such self flying and pulling kite could be than attached to the mast base for constant boost to the windsurfer effort.
At turns kite also change direction to the wind automatically.
Small size kite - similar to the training one should add nice boost to the wind-sailor in light wind conditions ( as in stronger winds we don't need any booster at all).

I'd rather poke myself in the eye with a stick or.....wear a helicopter hat.

This is one scenario in kiting (helicopter hat is much safer):

Doesn't the mast base transfer the power of the sail to the board, (ie guy cribb downforce tutorial) and if you attached a kite to the base then it would mean less power?

no, you just summarize vectors of all forces and kite is pulling you in right direction.
Same idea should be applied to sail boats and if only new rules allow I will have no
scruples to use it instead of spinnaker in next America Cup.
I think that simple experiment could be easy done with rope attached to windsurfing board and the pulled very gently by small boat or even RC boat.
As you said that could be a little bit different ( one force only forward) to kite ( two forces - up and forward)

Why are you talking about kiteboarding in the Windsurfing forum

Not at all, kite booster as a future to improvement to windsurfing.
Unless there is obviuously nothing to improve and we have already everything perfect in place.
Including 12.5M sails for light winds conditions.
To be fair I prefer self flying kite booster and 6-7m sail the12-15 sail to uphaul.

There are also some sailing manoeuvres to be reconsidered as turning with rope attached could be problematic at first.

You would need a tandem windsurfer with somebody at the front controlling the kite......... If the boat below had a sail, wouldn't the kite constantly depower the sail and make the sail defunct?

This sort of things but instead of kite that need constant attention and controlling ,
kite that stays and keep flying and specified angle to the wind. So windsurfer could concentrate on his own matters not on controlling kite.
Like ordinary old fashioned Franklin's kite that brings electricity to the ground on one simple rope.
Once attached to our mast base keep pulling board up the wind.

Honestly you have put some pretty absurd things up here in recent times, but this may take the cake.

Ingenious, no... Ridiculous, yes.

You seem to continually jump on here suggesting ways to "improve" windsurfing. Well after being a windsurfer for over 25 years I think it is good just the way it is. Maybe if you can't see that it simply isn't the sport for you?
