Hi all, ive been attempting a lot of backloops recently, some of them are ridiculus but in some i came quite close to landing them, the board seems to be perfectly placed for reception on the nose, but its so vertical and my body is slighly offset from the top of the board, so after the nose hits the water i (still in the air) end up crashing next to it
... Awesome sensation but it would be cool to actually keep riding out of one
!!
Any advice? Maybe im not getting enouth height (it takes a while to find a nice and steep wave around perth these days). I also usually ride with my boom at shoulder to chin height, should i put it lower?
Cheers!
For doing them off chop waves, hang right off the back of the sail/board on the take off and the sail will throw you higher (like a forward) and try to come down over the back of the board so you push forward through the water rather than land in a heap next to it.
Also I find if you take off really smooth, you land really smooth. this is kinda hard to do in bay chop though and you end up having to throw it around hard and it ends in a cross between a pushie + a backie..
isn't that a push loop when u have to push out? Or do you just mean sheet out as apposed to 'pushing'?
At the apex of the jump look over your shoulder and spot your landing. If you need to slow the spin down sheet out, if you need to speed it up sheet in.
I've been having similar problems recently, it seems to be very difficult to get the nose on the right angle to enter the water and rotate the right amount. I've managed to sail away from a few of them, but I still find myself regularly either being ridiculously under-rotated which results in a stinging sideways landing or over-rotating and landing on the tail. Any tips? I've found the most important part so far to be launching off a good size very steep wave.
after the apex, and on your downward journey...how do you stop your feet leaving the footstraps and your hands throwing the boom away.....![]()
would an icy cold can of h.t.f.u help ![]()
I ove-rotated yesterday, aweeesome sensation!!!!!! Landed on the tail in a kind of spin out but i was so amazed on the spot by what was going on that i didnt manage to hang on to the sail... but hey i did a complete turn!! Should have sheeted out a bit but i didnt think of it on the moment, i gues it will come from experience. That wave was particularly steep and I gave it a real good push (in the wave, thats what i was saying ealier) ![]()
.
Stoked, bring on some more wind/waves!!!!
