Whats the accomadation scene like up in Ledge / lancellin for the race weekend.

Prefer not to camp out if the wife has any say in it. hell id sleep in my car if i was solo :)
I can stay in perth (Swanbourne) free so it may be worth just driving up in the morning on that new highway they put in :)

Other option was to go to geralton for a week and cruise down past lancellin on the way back to perth. which also begs the question - whats accomadtion like in geralton.

I would think you would need to book pretty soon to get anything for that period or is alreay pretty much too late?

You could take the new highway from Gero to Lano... Might be going a bit out of your way if you take it from Perth to Lano

I recommend staying in Lano. The 1.5 hr drive back to Perth is best consumed the next day with a side serve of mild hangover!

Houses in Lancelin at that time of year need to be booked in one week blocks.
I don't know about backpacker's and motel type units.
The campsite facilities are good but tent sites are out in the open and windy all day and night. Very little shade.
Still worth staying up there if you can arrange it. The after party is great fun, and so are the couple of days leading up to the event, with the town rapidly filling with windsurfers, and a welcome party on the Thursday night. We (including the kids) had a ball last year. We camped, but slept poorly due to the tent flapping in the wind all night and heating up rapidly in the morning, so we have booked a house this year. Where better than Lancelin to spend a week at that time of year anyway?

Yeah, my friend and I are also thinking about staying in Geraldton from around the 10th of January. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay?

Sunset Beach Caravan Park is right on the beach, has good facilities and a range of accommodation options.

We stayed at "Lancelin Lodge" last year and it was great.
It's a YHA Youth hostel. It's really well kept, very clean and have double rooms, pool, laundry, excellent kitchen and great on budget. A few minute walk to the beach. From memory it's won a few awards for best YHA.
