I thought the first modern day Olympics were in 1896 in Athens - Guess there were a couple before that I didn't know about.

Are you the same guy who asked questions about an old Vinta board and then used the information to try to flog it off on eBay?

Ahh yes, please call me what you want, play the man, give insults if that makes you feel better. Remember the Seabreeze forums are mean to be friendly places where we can share information and have fun.

A quick search reveals this thread:

If my memory serves me correctly you did list the board and sail on eBay. This thread has links to those eBay sales. Had no luck selling your old gear? Thats too bad.

If you are going to lie and cheat try to make sure there isn't anyone around who knows some of the facts.

It's not from the Olympics - if memory serves me correctly the board used in LA was the Windglider (I was only a nipper). It's probably from the Windsurfer Worlds which were held in Perth in the early/mid eighties.

Incidentally, it would be utterly worthless

When it comes to vintage windsurfing gear, unless you have a Windsurfer One Design from the early 70's with the teak boom etc. in MINT condition, I don't reckon you'll find too many takers.

Windglider: that was Olympic racing in 1984.

But there was freestyle and slalom as a demo sport, on old one-design Windsurfers. As far as I'm concerned, it was more competitive than racing on the Windglider log. Sail on those freestyle Windsurfer was the same triangle sail as that one, although that one in the picture looks like a lawn pizza.

Value of old one-design Windsurfers: still used for teaching and farting around and social sailing inland, as in North America, in lesser winds. Whatever works.

Good for non-planing freestyle (and some planing) and good for general shape until the wind picks up, in the 10-15 knot range.

The '84 Windsurfer worlds were in Perth; the Olympics were the Olympics and although the Wally was used for the demonstration event, there's no reason why a 1984 worlds sails with a koala on it would be used at the 84 Games in the USA.

Looks like Thunder74 is making a strategic retreat. This thread shows how the saga unfolded, a story that probably has not concluded. You can see the old sail there.

yep your right dism that sail is the origonal 6m sail for the 84 LA olympic games n/o351380 back in those days windsurfing was big, dont quote me but i'm sure there were over 400,00 entry's, and you wouldn't believe it but we got a gold that year

HEY who would think thunder would swallow that story about the sail being the original sail of 400'000, let alone post it on EBAY(just for the record i didnt post it, it was a long lost friend that didnt know anything about the 84 games can you imagine 400,000 all battleing it out for the start line
