I hate lulls when your hooked in!!
The frantic sheeting in, bending of the knees, the back arch and shagging the sail with your groin while chest planting the boom - how more kooky can one look!!
Is there any way I can avoid looking soooo kooky when the wind dissapears??!
Longer harness lines will help. I try and sheet out a bit and really hang off the boom and (make feet light to stop tail sinking) try to maintain fin pressure. It works for me.
Worst thing you can do is over sheet and fall backwards.
If going at speed, I have a tendency to steer into the wind which helps to place the board back under me. Works for me.
1. Try bearing off (a little).
2. Try pushing the boom away from you (equal pressure from both hands). This puts more weight on to your lines and in to your sail.
If you are going to pull on the boom or sheet in, I suggest small pumps...
I sometimes just jump, more like a mini-bounce, straight up using only my feet to push (no room to bend the knees) and it gets me out of the harness. SO cool.
one of the few times i use the uphaul - front hand on uphaul instead of boom lets the rig go more vertical
always interesting to read the different ways people handle common problems, and good to learn from it.I have mainly been a watcher on seabreeze and learnt so much!!!
One of the things I have done in lulls is to unhook and hang on to the harness line with both hands , I guess whatever works is OK ???isn't it ??
Experienced a variation of this common occurance today...
Hooked in, planing (pretty fast) and within seconds - in the water!
I was hit with a gust in top of chop, causing the board to slide-out, still happens to me frequently, and normally I can manage to pull my back foot around and point downwind, but today I slid straight into a patch of no-wind...no recovery possible...and...wet!
