Is this a regular thing at margs?

There were 7 on a wave going in different directions at one point which was interesting not having seen waves like that before. Do people ever decide at the last minute that they are going to go in the other way and clean up?

Margs has both a left & right for surfers, so you can go both ways. Doesn't mean dropping in is OK though...

Dunno about Margaret River, but in many areas dropping in like the dude on the left will usually result in (A) Verbal abuse or (B) A punch in the head. Surfing is a great sport... (insert rolling eyes emoticon)

everyone looked quite happy, it's just that i've not seen a wave break in both directions before. There were a few going one way and a few going the other, all at the same time, and how do you decide which way to go when you are right in the middle?

You wouldn't actually be in the middle if no-one dropped in. Usually the biggest person making the most noise has right of way...

I'll gladly swap an open ocean or lake on a sailboard for a surf on crowded beach break anyday!

Phil, you live in surf heaven. Last time I was in your neck of the woods I scored 3ft glassy walls, 500+m long if you wanted with only about 5 people out.

I really need to take the drive down from the Goldy more often.

Sounds like you're reffering to the river bar? Or do mean the jail wall? Both spots can go off, and you're right, crowds aren't usually an issue. One spot (the bar) is tube city, the other -to my way of thinking- is pretty close to the perfect wave for wind surfers. I'm just not good enough on a sail board to take the jail wall on. One day though, one day!...

Yeah out at the gaol. I have sailed there once, the issue is that the hill blocks the down the line wind option so you have to sail it when the wind is coming from the north across the bay, which is opposite to the way it breaks. In saying that, I never ventured right out to the wall, maybe that might work in SE, but I assume there would still be a big wind shadow when taking off at the camp ground.

But in saying that, if it will work, I will come down and sail it.
