I have a NP X9 boom which has the grip starting to come away along the inside seam.

Can anyone advise what type of glue to use to reattach it? (looks like it is carbon underneath).

Any 'contact adhesive' - the stuff you put on both sides, wait for it to dry then press together. Kwik Grip is the most common.

The new water based Kwik Grip is best though as it dries clear so any overruns are not so visible - the old stuff is yellow and a poor job sticks out like dogs balls.

For a tiny tear I have used a drop of superglue and it works great

I agree with Mark though NP do seem to use quite thin grip tape and it may have freyed instead of delaminated. I have re-gripped 2 with quickgrip and they feel better on the hands.
While u are at it it is a good idea to replace the nuts on the front clamp. VERY good chance they are not stainless (or sh#t stainless) and will rust. Just take the bolts into a Whitworths and get some 316 marine grade ones to suit. Just cannot understand why NP would use crap ancillaries on a top boom.

Stick with the original kwikgrip. It works.
There are heaps of variations now, Gel grip, water based and a few others. The original one works well. The others are watered down handy man versions and are not very sticky.
If you're worried about messyness, just be neat and don't spill glue every where.

Thanks for suggestions. I noted also that the boom clip lever pins have started to rust! Surely they should be stainless.

Hmmmm, I think at best you will find the metal to be "Stainless-ish" steel or 304L which means it know's someone, who knows someone who once met a real piece of stainless steel. Do yourself a favour and buy a spare set of clip ends.......that is rust........and they will break. In future wash boom with a hose after use.
Sh#t like that just let's them down everytime.
