Hi all,
Just a couple of questions that have me confused a bit ...
1. I see a lot of used RRD boards compared to Naish ones,so my question is if Naish are better than RRD and that for are not put up to sale or does RRD sell much more so being more popular one has more chances to find used ones ?
2. Naish all terain vs global freeride (same volume), I read somewhere that they are actualy the same board with the only differences being in the fin sizes and that the global freeride is being manufactured with cheaper matterials ...
Is that true, are there any other differences ? If not why should one chose the all terain being more expensive and not just getthe freeride with an extra smaller fin for wavier conditions ?
Thanks guys for the input ...
My point of view is that RRD offer better performance, I had a Naish all terrain and it was a pig on the water......
Robby is just not putting any development in his boards and sails, he is just renaming them and changing the colours every year.... all his budget goes into kite and SUP....
My 2 cts...
I have just looked at the dimensions and for the 95lt both are 240x62 and the 105lt both are 244x64.
I also read the following http://boards.mpora.com/boards/freeride-boards-kit/naish-global-freeride-115.html
which mentions that the designs are identical.
So I was puzzled as to why - if they are indeed identical with minimum dif in the rail - not get the GF which is cheaper with a smaller fin as an extra one and have the best of 2 worlds (price and general conditions performance) - if that is possible ??
I am not an expert so I may not completely understand what I am reading, but this variety of models / shapes / categories has me a bit confused ...![]()
Spyros, length and width mean very little but I can't see full specs anywhere, so rocker and rail shape etc are impossible to ascertain. If Boards.co.uk says they are the same I'd trust it as they check stuff out pretty well
If the Global Freeride is built with a lower standard of construction to be cheaper that is a hard one. If built with more glass (rather than carbon) and it is just heavier, then that can be a good thing for durability. But if they just used less of everything to make it cheaper it could be really bad!
Reviews mention the GF feels less crisp and a bit too forgiving so I'd suggest the AT is stiffer and better constructed
They also mention a one step sandwich process for the GF (to reduce cost I guess) and to my thinking that could maybe lead to more manufacturing faults than a traditional layup where workers can see how things are going before the laminates are bagged up.
Makes the AT sound like a better buy - but if it is hundreds of dollars difference and you will use it 10x a year well who cares......
hi guys,
a couple of things, firstly the 2010 Global and Global freeride are what i think you are asking about. these two boards did come out of the same moulds. so shape/rocker/rails are all the same. The construction and the fins are the differences.
the 2010 global (not GF) is a continualtion of the previous years all terain line and is a higher spec construction and comes with two fins in the powerbox versions and a factory boardbag.
I also can't remember the exact layup of the 2010 GF but it is a touch heavier and theoretically more flexible than the Global. this board is the one that is supplied with one fin.
If you already have a quiver of powerbox fins or arent fin specific, the on water differences wont be huge for someone not sailing daily.
hope that helps?
also no comments on rrd, but Naish definately pour some resources into windsurfing each year, they have a full time sail designer who does nothing but their sails, and pours a ton of energy into them each year. the same can be said of the board department.
