I'm halfway thru this great book at the moment.
It's titled 'Shakey', Neil Young's Biography by Jimmy McDonough.
Here's an excerpt from it:
"I bought this Beaulieu super-8 camera and I was workin' with it. And I worked with it and worked with it. Super-8 made me ill. I got sick. I think I musta OD'd on it or somethin' -- I was so into it. I got a fever."
"It was like when you eat some poison and you get sick, you never wanna have it again. After that, every time I thought about filming I got sick. That was the end of it."
"It's a little like windsurfing. I was really into it. I got all the equipment, and I windsurfed a couple of years. I thought about it a lot. Read windsurfing magazines."
"Finally one day I realised -- F#ck, I could just be doin' this for the rest of time, just buying equipment. New equipment comes every four months. Windsurfing's great, but I'm not really very good. I never was able to get a jibe down. So I stopped. But I did it for two or three years. It totally distracted me."
NY came to Oz around 1985-86, he chased up some windsurfing while he was here, I think he was lent a Mistral longboard. We (my business) gave him one of our t-shirts and he wore it on stage in one of his concerts. A pic of him appeared in the Sydney papers. We were so tickled pink....I think it was a pink shirt too. Yeah big deal and it was long ago but thanks for the memories waveslave.
Going sailing now, BOM sez ENE 14-18 knots...might practice on the shortboard.
I mean he quit windsurfing coz he thought he was not that good and he could not gybe. What came next, kiting?
I know who Neil Young is but did not know he windsurfed.
Waveslave thankyou for an informative post.
Factual, with quotes, and very interesting to know Neil Young windsurfed for a while.
Makes a change from trolling so congratulations again.
Waveslave posts something interesting and informative.
Waveslave, are you feeling ok? Or has someone nicked your login details?
Just kidding - don't want to reduce the karma levels on the board in case it affects Huey this weekend... greens all over the place in VIC. Bring it on...
Rick, you might wanna edit your post. I'm not sure Bruce Springsteen leaving a pair of his jeans in your car is something you want a lot of people to know about let alone the fact you still wear/have them ![]()

maybe neil didn't get many blowjobs after going windsurfing.
unlike backstage after a gig!
hard to have the world at your feet and then realise you can't jibe.
Speaking of musos from that era, Ivor Davies from Flowers/Icehouse windsurfed too, quite a fanatic I believe.
