Nice idea but imho the GoPro if fundamentally flawed in that it can't be tilted to get a horizontal horizon. Using the Flymount you can tilt the GP though which is much better. Using the Flymount and a Contour you can do even more.

all this go pro footage. It's so dizzying I think I just vomited a little bit in mouth.

That's a great video. Cool watching the kiter sit on the front and they are going for a good distance. Just a fun vid!

I think this is the best angle for GoPros.

I am not sure the flymount can get the cam that far back.

You'd need some extensions to get back that far..... anyone done it? Video or it can't be done [}:)]

I had my first attempt with the go pro on monday, didn't think of fixing at the far end of the boom with the flymount..

looked like that (just a pic, I'm still trying to figure out how to edit the video....)

Bike handle bar mount $40 from your local AUSSIE shop fully adjustable can be tilted or moved in any direction

Hey Gaz,

make sure you use the safety chord from the camera housing to the boom.
Those go pro mounts have a nasty habit of snapping.
Little bit of sunshine, the black heats up, goes brittle and then PING snapo and no more go pro.

While cheap and modifiable the mounts and connections are just not built to last or to take a belting.
Go the flymount

Based on a tip from Firebob I secure my GoPro with fishing line traces.

just as long as you're using something.
Pays to tape the line/trace to the back of the housing to stop it flicking in and out of shot too

So where do you attach the safety cord to have one idea but not sure. Need to get a bike handle bar mount can pick one up for $27

Geez Gazza, that only took 3 sections and 4 bolts to achieve a tilting set up. Take it from me, the more sections, the more vibrations & the more chance of fatigue cracking. GoPro uses extremely brittle plastic, 3 broken so far.
I do like the way your mount can tilt for a better framed horizon.

If you check pic three you will see the clamp is cable tied to the boom just before the last section hence the lack of vibration that you can see in the video.
I have also cable tied the bolt that goes through the casing directly to the boom so the only way I will lose it is if the housing snaps at the bolt, then it's ****ed anyway as the water will get in. If the section snaps it will still be attached to the bolt and boom

Comparing my vid to the first one I would say mine doesn't vibrate half as much as his. I was on a 4.7 and it was pretty windy

gazza's vid has the horizon pretty much horizontal. something i think stegs was alluding to also.

gazza's vid is one of the best angles i've seen.

Flymount can't get it that far back with that angle. It's a 50/50 split of the sail... GoPro can only do one side.......

Sorry, should have quoted the post I was responding to - I was providing a recommendation for a masthead mount, not an alternative to this system.
