Will this be run in the same format as breakwater to beacon - i.e. can we just gybe round a random marker after 15 minutes (suggest yellow no PWC buoy) and fang back to claim victory?[}:)]
??? which part of 15 mins one way + 15 mins the other way would make a 1 hour race ![]()
The format previously was figure-8 race with two buoys a few hundred meters apart. One buoy will most likely be quite close to shore (good spectator sport). Race starts about 3pm at/near Elwood YC.
- Make sure you pay for a parking ticket or you may end up with a fine.
- Last year about 40 sailors started the race, with about half dropping out by 45min mark due to exhaustion.
- Lots of gybing/falling due to the short distance between the buoys.
- Due to the number of sailors in a small space, it is possible that collisions may occur...
Matt , I beleive Mr MaxCarbon was exercising sarcasm . I laughed !!!
MaxCarbon , If it is like last years North 1 hr I would recommend a helmut and full body armour !!!
Sorry Bren , I couldn't resist !!!! Ha
For those with GPS's - make sure you wear them - I'll put together a small repaly like Nebbian has done for L2L.
Hope this year the buoys are further apart, I worked out last year I gybed over 90 times in this race, I was totally buggered afterwards.
Spoke to Wooz at RPS this morning.....the plan is to put the bouys about a 1km apart to make the whole race a lot more fun for a lot more competitors!
Max - this means should be able to do at least one lap in the hour!!!!
