Isn't there a board called a wave scalpel. Might be hard to sell if they used advertising images like that.

BLOOD RULE-----YOU'RE OUTTAHERE!!!

Never needed stiches (yet), but I have a nasty habit of running my ankles across the fin when getting the sail ready during waterstarts!

BTW Haggar's foot has TWO distinct cuts - things must've gotten pretty frantic there towards the end!!

Sorry Westy, but if you're going to play in the kitchen, you gonna get the heat one day. One reason of why I do post this stuff is to help to remind people to take care. Now if some one can just remind me that would be great

Hey Haggar. Was the injury from a sharp leading edge or trailing edge, or was it too much of an explosion to know? If it was from a leading edge, does it reallly make a significant difference to speed if it is sharp. I thought the leading edge should be clean, as in no nicks, but it was better to have it finely rounded, rather than sharp. But then, I don't speedsail so I wouldn't really know.

Mikey, to be quite honest I dont really know how my foot from the front strap came in contact with the fin. It would have been the training edge I'm pretty sure, as the front isn't sharp at all which is how fins usually are. When you have a big stack, who knows what happens, the board must of flipped and been in front of me at one stage. There are a few threads on speed fins in the speed section, you can have a small sqaure edged flat on trailing edge, so they dont need to be sharp.

If you are freeriding or wave sailing, I would get out the sand paper and block make sure your fins are'nt really sharp on the trailing edge, cause they dont need to be.

Hey Haggar,
Maybe a cork over the end of the fin would help - just like the cork on Rupreck's (Steve Martin) fork in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Seriously, that doesn't look like it would of tickled. You seem to have a higher proportion of bad luck than the rest of us. I suppose you could of got your google earth track just from the satellite photo - nice blood trail.

I am constantly conscience of this type of injury.
Our Formula fins are very sharp and it is super easy to kick the trailing edge when entering or exiting the water. Now i am going to be even more cautious.

A cork is great idea sausage, can you get a fast one for me and Brett, maybe we can get rubber tipped fins Hmmm bad luck, I guess so, I know of about 6 sailors who had horendous catapults over the last couple of months and they all escaped injury except one. This was my only stack in the last year. But I think its about minimising risk, I'll file this one in my memory of another situation to avoid.
