Am looking at getting away for 3 weeks in Nov.
Am after an O/S windsurfing destination. I'm a beginner/ intermediate, will want to use their gear & possibly get some instruction if the price is reasonable.
Any ideas or experiences greatly appreciated?
It appears that most places in the mags are near Africa, Egypt, or canaries? Don't mind roughing it or living it up.. just want a great experience...
Would prefer place were weathers warm, people are friendly, winds consistent and the beers cheap..![]()
Airfares not such a problem but don't want to get ripped off on a dud destination and bad accom....![]()
Many thanks...
Thanks fionzc,
have you been windsurfing in vietnam?
Is the wind any good?![]()

Also is Maui any good at this time of year?
Hey Gusty,
I went to Fiji - Sailboarding Safaris 18 mths ago and still talking about it. had a ball. Go back again when I get more money. Instruction was fantastic - learnt heaps. Cost around $2500 for 10 days a/fares, food, beer, instruction. Nothing else to do on the Island(2hrs drive north of Nadi plus 10 minute tinnie trip) except w/s, snorkel, canoe, kiting or lying in hammocks.
Hey... I know it's a bit of a trek from here, but Dahab in Egypt is a highlight. The weather is warm, it's windy most days, Club Dahab (sister to Club Vass and Club Margarita) has great gear and some awesome instructors (seriously, the best instructors in the world - you pretty much can't be an instructor there unless you can spock 540, flakka, flat water loop, and they're superb at instructing all levels as well), accommodation is good (stay in the Swiss Inn - it's worth the upgrade from the cheapo place) and the beer is cheap. I believe Emirates will get you into Cairo, and then an internal flight will get you to Sharm El Sheikh... from there it's an hour's taxi tide (about AUD$40) to Club Dahab, although they'll arrange to pick you up I'm sure.
I have heard rumours that you can fly to Dubai and then to Sharm, but not worked out how to do it myself.
Club Vass will either be shut down or not windy by that time. Club Margarita in the Caribbean possibly worth a look. Don't know about anything more local to here though...
PS - personally I'd probably spend the money on equipment and hire a house at Sandy Point for three weeks :oD
Just go to Maui,
Movember should be OK for wind, not as consistant as June July August, but you will be happy with friendly people, good windsurfing hire, cheap accomodation, (PM Me if you are really keen I can hook you up) warm weather, warmwater, huge windsurfing culture, heaps to do if not windy, snokelling, surfing, mountain biking, hiking, drinking,
Negatives for USA though, our dollar is crap at the moment against the Green Back!
We had dollar for dollar recently, not you are lucky to get 70US cents for our dollar
It depends where you're coming from. If you're from WA I would say you'd be disappointed with the wind in Vietnam! Dahab has guaranteed wind may - sep, blew 25 - 35 knots everyday I was there. No waves, but some bump and jump out the back on swell. I did look at flights a while back and just monitoring the Dubai airport website departures could see there were no connecting flights to Sharm. That will change I'm sure (if not already). So you would be looking at a 10 hour flight from WA, then a 2 hour flight to sharm.
Thanks guys for the updates.......
Dahab & Maui lookin favorable at the minnie ![]()

i would go with maui. was there in march this year and there was plenty of wind and some swell.... plus its a beatiful place to be even when there is no wind....
I've been to a few places and Maui about 8 times. Maui definitely appears to be the most consistent for wind. Moreover it offers a range of conditions from flat water, B&J to mild or wild surf (t.o.y.) dependent.
It's expensive but there is cheap backpacker type accommodation available and you can get a cheap car from Word of Mouth rentals.
I'm not sure what's happening on the North Shore now after the 'unofficial' rental accommodation has been clamped down.
im off to dahab with vass 2moro, its been 4.2 weather for 3 weeks, will be for next week yeeeehhaaaaa
Club Vass / Dahab vs Mistral? Club Dahab every time. Amazing kit, great instructors.
Yup, in Dahab wind drops off about 1pm - 2pm becasue the seabreeze begins to cancel out the prevailing wind. Lagoon is gusty, but "Speedy" and "Baby Bay" are much better - just a bit of a slog to get back from occasionally. Nothing too serious though.
And when the wind dies, if you're quick enough and keen enough, you can go for a dive in the afternoon - Dahab's got some great scuba diving!
