Today in the SMH: www.smh.com.au/business/murchison-beats-midwest-in-wa-port-tender-20080729-3mr6.html
In the article they mention that the big 4 banks will be funding this project... hm, I wonder how Westpac can on one hand beat their own drum about having signed the "Equator Principles" (see: http://www.westpac.com.au/internet/publish.nsf/Content/WICP+Our+Advertising ) , yet they will fund a project which will have a huge impact on the local environment on a massive scale.
This is like the Tassy pulp mill project all over again... so were are the tree huggin' hippies?
Perhaps it's time to put together a petition and boycott Westpac... or better send a little note to ACA or Today Tonight... don't they love to drag the banks through the dirt?
show me were to sign. I heard it all started with interest from rich court and his brother in allliance companies with his bro.rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Wankers they just want to make a few coupons. Plenty of room to go south of corros consideridion they r going the wrong way about it. If they want a deep water port. I Think the whole aus comminity needs to really start making enviro stats real quikly. personal I do not know enough about it but am a avid sailor of the spot an corros. MY guess is there is gonna be more cover ups to come by our blessed goverment.
Did the windsurfers get anything out of the deal? From what I remember, there was suppose to be an artificial reef built or something like that.
We will all need to keep our eyes peeled for when the dozers first move in.
That's when we as a collective group need to make people aware of what is about to be lost... and hopefully get something in return (artificial reef)
It's not about chaining ourselves to machinery (though anyone who wants to do that is welcome) and abusing the workers as opposed to 'using' the media to get our voice heard.
There will be massive amounts of media coverage given the resource boom and 'other' unwanted attention the WA Government has been receiving.
The aim is to take advantage of what is taking place WITHOUT offending Joe Public.
ON a side issue it may well be worth looking into who actually owns the land at Oakagee... I'm pretty sure it's owned by Kingstream... which is owned by Richard Court's brother... and was SOLD to Kingstream as government/public land by a particular WA Premier![]()
If the Port was to be built a further 10 - 15km north... would any of us care ?
why does a bottle of Cape Mentelle cost $35 in a bottle shop here in OZ when you can buy the exact same bottle at Berlins' most expensive shopping centre for $10 less?
Simple my friend... corporate greed!
Sadly we seem to live in an age were money rules everything... even if it means raping the land, selling your first born and generally screwing over anyone you can.
Personally I don't subscribe to this philosophy and by the sound neither do you. As a matter of fact none of the people I consider my friends don't live by this either... sadly though I know plenty of people that do and I guess that's the short answer.
... getting of my soap box once again.
PS: I am a tree huggin' hippie at heart myself. And I still keep telling myself that my hard earned tax money goes to supporting the ABC and Triple J rather than our questionable state governments.
It will be interesting to finally see a detailed plan of the proposed port, I approached OPR about being able to see the proposed plan but was told it was commercially sensitive and would be released eventually. In any case it will be mamoth for this region as its starting from scratch and infrastructure requirements are huge. I believe the original environmental impact study is out dated by current standards and thinking, so it will be interesting to see whether they start on that again or race it through to get the show going.
