I am getting back into windsurfing after around 15 years off and still have my F2 Lightning which I believe to be a 1986 model. The foot straps on the board have all disintegrated with time and I would like to either replace them or modify the board to suit screw type straps. The original straps attach by locating into holes in the board with a rectangular block which is wedged down into the hole locking them in. If anyone has a set of foot straps to suit the old type F2 system I would be keen to purchase them, or, if has anyone successfully filled the holes and fitted screw type straps - I would like to know what was used to do it and how you went about it.
Hello, F2,
If you fail to come up with the correct straps, your only option would be to fit strap inserts into your board. Personally, I prefer having this work done by a professional, say a surfboard manufacturer/repairer, but you may be able to do it yourself. Your local windsurf shop should be able to source the inserts from Stuart Bell in WA who are the Chinook agent for Oz.

Hope this helps.
Are you sure you really need the straps and drilling holes?
I'd postpone like hell until I'd be really sure...
I tried one last summer for the heck of it. Monster of a board, but sails real well.
Anyhow, I found it holds well for up to 15-17 knots with no straps, great top grip, even in bumpy conditions. Of course sooner or later you'll need those, i.e. planing 20+, but by then perhaps consider something smaller?
Have fun!
If you can get hold of a Cobra Gun or Cobra Race they had the same foot straps too, I think i got two foot straps from my old Cobra's, I will see if i can dig them up and you can have them!
Hopefully i still have them!!!
cheers
