I currently work in Investment Banking in London as Java Developer and we are planning on heading out to Aus a year in March. Perth is our number one destination due to the great windsurfing, but every Java job I see seems to be Java J2EE rather than pure Java.
Any Java bods out there have any comments on whether there are straight Java jobs in Perth ?
Thanks
A lot of development has gone overseas...cheaper...
You could possibly find some configuration work in SAP. (CSC, IBM, Accenture)
You should look for work with them directly through their sites.
Other larger consulting houses:
ASG - asggroup.com.au - Oracle and SAP
CSG - www.csg.com.au - they do Oracle , and Oracle is Java..
Birchman - birchmangroup.com
Birchman in Perth has acquired a development company called "Beacon". Beacon is a bus. software developmet company. If you contact Birchman, ask them about Beacon.
Possibly try Bankwest ( but through headhunters).
Some headhunters:
www.peoplebank.com.au/
www.hays.com.au
Otherwise the most common job site is www.seek.com.au
I was going to say Dome is always after baristas, but now I realise he might be talking about 'puter stuff?
Perth does not have a huge amount of Java or J2EE, predominantly .NET. Not sure about pure Java vs J2EE for the following but it may help you investigate: Thales has a lot of Java development. Dept of Health has one large Java app. Dept of Transport's major app, Trelis, is Java/J2EE.
If you know Java well the transition to C# shouldn't be too bad.
