It would be an improvement if I could add some low end power to a sail. I wonder if I could put a pair of camber inducers into it by myself. Has anyone tried this?

Hi Brucie.

If you can somehow make them fit then I guess so, but I don't think that they will fit.

Cambered sails have the batten pocket ending inside the luff tube, while camberless sails have the batten pocket ending before the luff... so I don't think that it will fit.

Say hi to Pueno for me.

Last century I did this, copied a convertible sail we had, (2 removable sails). It;s a while ago now, but I'm fairly sure I had to cut small pockets in the luff sleeve. And it was a special cam, it had some sort of velcro strap that went round the end of the batten, you could adjust the strap to tension the camber against the batten. From memory it did improve the low end a fair bit.

it depends on the cut of the sail, you cant add any bottom end if the sail isnt cut for it ,eg i put 3 cambers ito an old 5.9 fred haywood speed sail because they had bottom end cut into the sail, but if its not there to start with it won't happen

Thanks fella. I'm not sure if I will ever take the trouble to do it. There's some work involved. I, too, was considering copying a convertible sail (I believe you meant 2 removable cams.). What I have been realizing would be that luff sleeves of cambered sails are wider than those of non-cambered. There could be some trouble with that.

Say, Brucie, that's a great avatar for you -- a windsock for a windbag. You must be upwind of it.

Is that on your airfield?
