Was just on the Neil Pryde website and saw this video

Disclaimer: I am not affilliated with NP, I don't own a NP sail: in fact I don't even know anyone who does. But it's an awesome video!

One of those sails towards end of vid must have been 12m2+ by the look of the boom length. You'de soon know you're alive if the wind picked up 5 knots.

for those that are interested the ferry was designed here in perth and built at the austal ships yard in alabama. having been on sea trials of many similar austal vessels there is no way it was at full speed. most of the ferries can do 40 knots plus but usually run slower during operation to save fuel.

awesome footage and sailing

If that was AA out in front just pulling away it must make Micah and the rest of the JP race team feel really secure

KA43,
Yeah you're dead right - AA finally realised he wouldn't be in the shot so he put the brakes on. Towards the end it appears he just puts the foot down again and pulls away at a dramatic pace. Also right at the end one of the back markers spins out and seems to get swallowed by a swell.

It's funny how evenly matched the back 3 sailors seem to be when the front one just pulls away like that.

I was trying to work out who is who, it's a massive guess but I think the leader of the rear pack is Micah, the guy who wipes out is either Robby Swift or Peter Bijl (because they weren't wearing a shirt). So it's probably reasonable to say the guy out in front was AA.

A ferry can do 40 kts + wow , I'd like to see one of those on Sydney Harbour

Regardless of how fast it goes, sydney ferries would figure out a way to make it run late.

That chopper looked pretty close, i thought that would stuff up the airflow. I sailed under a chopper once about 50m above and i certainly felt it.

Looks like AA is on the isonic, while the rest are on JP slalom boards... hehe

Have a close look in high def I think you'll find it's not AA out front, he's the one in the pack closest to the boat.

RS looks to be the one who goes tit's up

great video clip-but I have to say I find it vaguely irritating when they keep cutting to slow motion and back up to normal and flicking thru different shots quickly.
Some sailing movies are a bit like that too. You cant quite focus on whats happening.
