Its very easy to do yourself.
Most important part is to get ALL the old grip and glue off the arms.
Do a Google search fro the "boardlady" site and its all on there.

The kit I used had directions (simple), 2 rolls of grip, contact cement, throw away brush, thats all you need.

Getting the old grip off is a real pain. They used to make the prisoners at Guantanamo do it but the supreme court said it was torture.
I have heard that an easy way to get it off is by putting it in a big green garbage bag with some acetone and leaving it in the sun for some hours. I haven't tried this though. It might be hard on the plastic bits.
Well, I heard already that it is not too easy to remove the grip. Anyone has another idea? I think the acetone is not the best way in case of carbon booms?!

How about using Eucaliptus oil spray? It dissolves most glue (great way of getting old stickers off things, like younger brothers)
Get yourself a box cutter or trimming knife. Take the blade out and starting from the boom end of the arms run the (very sharp) blade down the grip and it removes the grip in strips. It is tiresome and takes awhile but it actually removes the old contact cement as well.
Its just a matter of being patient. When you have got all the crap off, get some sandpaper (around 400 grit) and give the arms a quick sand to get rid off the left overs. A quick rinse and and your good to go with the new grip.

If you have an alloy boom I wouldn't bother re gripping it, the time it takes, you would be better off just buying a new boom. It takes hours to get the old grip off you could just go to work instead and then nuy a new one!
I just re gripped my boom but did it because it is a full carbon so kinda expensive to buy a new one. I used engine degreaser to get the grip off, I think it worked well but was still a pain

come off by itself, glue and all
an alternative to re-gripping is to use hockey stick grip.
Pros: Quick, Easy, okay to get wet.
Cons: looks (Black is least noticeable), wash regularly in fresh water. feels a bit spongee, but you wont notice it after a little while.
How to?
Remove old grip
remove glue
remove dust with acetone.
read hockeystick re-grip instructions (especially part about overlap and stretching).
start grip at front end moving towards tail.
Notes:
For number of rolls required (yes will need more then 1),
BOOM: measure length to be re-gripped
Grip: at shop find a hockeystick (adults) measure gripped section of hockeystick.
QTY = BOOM/HOCKEYSTICK (ROUNDUP)
Grip Colour: Black (Definitely),
Grip Texture: Smooth
Can add electrical tape to secure ends
I must admit carbon booms are heaps easier than alloy.
The boom I did recently was pretty ratty and the grip was real old.
It came off in long easy strips and after a quick sand of the arms was ready to be done.
One thing though. With carbon booms be VERY careful when sanding or running your hands along to feel for rough spots. Carbon strands are the worst splinters to get out and they go in easy and quickly, ouch!!!!!
