Hi All
Struggling with settings.
Just got a Koncept 6.6 on the S-Type 93 with a choco fireblade 30. After much adjustment, i can't stop my front foot trying to twist out of the strap. Just couldn't get comfortable. The sail felt good and deeper off wind was ok but as soon as trying fig 8 course it was a constant effort to keep it in and weighted.
My normal sail was/is a NP RX1 6.1 which is fine.
I moved the mast foot further forward (almost to the front of the track), opened up the front straps, closed up the front straps, scratched my head etc.
This is the max sail size for the board.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

Not sure about the 93l, bu I just spent some time using my Koncept 6.6 with a 72l S-Type -> at 72kg, it held trim quite nicely with a 30cm Select fin.

I did however take quite many adjustments before I got the footstraps worked out. Basically I needed them all the way back and out-board.

I posted a review of the board, in the 'Review' section of Seabreeze -> hope it helps.

Yes, read your review.
Surprised the 72 handles the 6.6.
The only thing i didn't do was move the front straps to the rear holes so i'll give that a go. Amazing how far the sails have come since 2000. I can use the 6.6 easily in conditions i can just cope with on the RX1 6.1. Much nicer feeling.

Try lengthening your harness lines and moving them back a bit. Then adjust your stance to hang a bit lower and forward. This should help get leverage over the sail and transfer more weight on to your front foot. Plus the longer lines will allow you to open up the leading edge of the sail, ie. more upright, more efficient and it will move weight to the front foot.

When you're going deep your trying to avoid being pulled over the front hence more front foot pressure.

Wayne,
Sail a 93l S-type with 6.7Aerotech VMG and 30cm Select Viper fin. Originally came with a drake 34cm slalom fin which worked well with the larger sail but once you dropped sail size to 5.4m VMG it was way over finned. I now only sail with the 30cm fin although it took a little while to get used to not having much drive and lateral resistance when winds are marginal.

Once you get a feel for when the board is going to spinout when planning(particularly when the wind drops right out and loses all mast foot pressure) you're on the way to feeling much more comfortable on it.

Also I have footstraps in outer (rail) position although do occassionally take my back foot out and position it closer to my front foot to eliminate spin out as mentioned above. This also allows you to point the board much harder into wind whilst staying on the plane.

Mast track position is about 10mm back from centre for me as well. I find the board much more responsive (looser)

I was mucking around with set up quite a bit when i remembered Guy Cribbs article on harness lines. Didn't have the elastic but measured 1/3rd back and found i needed to move the harness lines about 30mm back. Better, but not perfect. Yet.
Mast track was fiddled with from where i use it on the 6.1 (about 10mm back from centre) to about 10 mm from front.
Next session i'll move the straps all the way back (always outboard) and bring the mast back to centre. Might use a 32 fin for lighter winds.
The 30 Choco does let go easier than the old Race Extreme 12" but comes together again quicker and easier. But is a faster fin for sure.

Hey mate,

I use a 93L S-type with a 08 6.6m Koncept!!! it's my favorite combination of all. I find i have my footstraps back as far back and outboard as they can go, the back of my mast base is in line with the back of the mast track and as far as harness lines go i just fiddled until they felt right. Thats very much a trial and error thing but is very important to be comfortable. mocing them a cm here and there can change the feel of a sail completely.

Thanks bubs.
I've been tending to adjust everything forwards so far 9except harness).
Will go the whole way back and see if it suits. What weight are you? I'm 83 kg.
What fin are you using?

I'm using a Select Eagle 29cm fin which is really nice with the board... I do find the settings much further back works better. just make sure you don't use much out haul with the koncept also. i had someone (much more experienced sailor) have a fiddle with mine and he took off all out haul, no tension at all, which has chanced the feel of the sail totally. then when it blows up you just start adding a tiny bit more here and there. As for harness lines just move them around until they feel comfortable (very small adjustments at a time), but trust me when you get it right this is a fantastic combination!!!
