Anyone been able to polish out the foggy look that monofilms and the like get from wear and tear of sand etc taking the polish off films?
I am going to try windex but just wondering if anyone has tried car polish or any other method that works?
I have had moderate success with Meguiar's PlastX. It's available from auto stores. Whilst it did improve the visibility through the mono, it did not make it "like new".
On the other hand, it worked a treat on my Subaru's headlights. ![]()
I think you will find that they are abrasive marks and unfortunately won't come out. I thought there might be some hope for mine too and when they are "wet" as you clean them they look better but when it dries, they are just the same. That is reality.![]()
Maybe that is why one manufacturer of sails makes a point of saying "no monofilm used in our sails".
I am not keen on mono as you need to treat it with "kid gloves" in order to keep it looking good.
So how do you get rid of the fogging in the PVC window of Ezzy sails then? It's usually not too bad, by sometimes could be clearer.
Cheers, Jens
I tend to deliberately mess up most of my gybes. not because I can't gybe it's because a thin sheen of water on the monofilm keeps it looking clear...really!
Bunch of Nancy-boys!
What's wrong with a scruffy-looking sail? Mine all are, and I have dings/scratches & stains on my boards, bends in my booms, and dodgy masts to match. I've never had any kit stolen either! ![]()
Correction - the mono on my sails are probably scrubbed, if I could see through the grey duct tape! ![]()
Jeffrosail - that's how I've accumulated the sails I have so far, but sorry - I've made a resolution to only buy new, or near-new (ex-demo, last year's etc.) from now on. I've done my time working ebay & cheap bargains on s/breeze buy'n'sell (although I'll still buy from s/breeze buy'n'sell, but will go for quality, not quantity!). ![]()
yea my 5.3 is looking like its been smashed around for a summer by a bloke that like to use his gear ![]()
