Is it OK to sail in St Kilda Marina in the flat water? Looks like a great spot for gybing practice....
err, no Melbourne actually, althought the same could be said.... Was wondering if it's reserved for the tea-baggers.
You,ll run out of wind if you sail in too far and too close to the breakwater . Main issue though is kites , s..t loads of them . I think it would be a nightmare , I,de stay well away .

So where the hell do you find flat water in Melbourne? Elwood's fantastic for a few waves to ride but I'm sick of riding chop. The point is beckoning...
I sail there most weekday afternoons when the seabreeze is on. Launch on the northern side of the kiters (ie: opposite end to the pier) - near the no windsurfing sign! just ignore it...
Your starboard-tack gybes happen in the section behind the breakwater, just in front of the launch zone - which can be quite flat, with less than 1ft waves. The breakwater doesn't affect the wind too much.
When on port-tack (on your way out), look for a large piece of swell so that you get a clean face, then gybe on that; generally speaking, the bigger the swell -> the cleaner the face.
True flat water ? No , not that I have ever seen . I think Point Henry near Geelong is pretty flat but I have never sailed there .
Maybe somebody knows a flat water spot ??
Hey Mathew , The long range forecast for next Sunday maybe looks OK for the Pit . I think my speed board comes back from QLD today , so I,m keen for a blast . Will you be heading down if it looks like it,s on ?

Pt Henry in Geelong gets a little wind chop depending on wind speed and direction, but not huge waves as such.
Lake Connewarre (again in Geelong) is the same..just a little bit of wind chop as the wind increases.
This is Lake Connewarre this arvo.. about 12 knots with a few gust up to about 15 maybe. A couple of guys were doing 24 - 25 knot runs (unfortunately not me..yet 
)
Thanks Matthew , I forgot about that . Bugger , I don't have a slalom board !!! might have to give it a miss unless it,s windy enough for wave gear .
