A few weeks I asked, and got, alot of feedback on my 'front foot is slipping out of the footstrap'-thread. So today I'm attempting to move the front footstraps back, after moving one I realize that the hole in the board for the backward positioning is damaged and the screw does not grip.
So, do anyone have any idea of what to do, I'm thinking filling the hole with epoxy, then sticking a silicone-sprayed screw in the epoxy and let it harden... then after a day or so screw out the screw...?
Is this the way to go, or am I about to wreck my board completely?
Any suggestions are appreciated, as always! :)
Try to use PT screws (Plastic Tech) as they have a thin /deep profile and will cut into the plastic inserts a lot better than standard screws. They may not be easy to source but worth a try and lube the screw with moist/soft soap to reduce the drag of the thread on the plastic.
Hm... I might try out the larger screw first, then if that does not 'bite' I'll go with epoxy... I might do a test run on a siliconed screw in epoxy just to be sure that it lets go.
Thanks y'all, advice and pointers much appreciated! :)
I don't think that epoxy will work on the plastic / nylon screw insert, it doesn't bond well to that material.
I've tried the epoxy fix with mixed results> I used vaseline as a release agent, that worked OK, but as waiting4wind says, the bond to the plastic isn't brilliant.
The problem with using a bigger screw, is the possibility of splitting the insert, I've seen this happen, and it lets water into the board. Best fix is to replace the insert.
for a quick fix cut some cable ties and jam them in with the rough to the inside they wont come out and you shouldnt have to glue them
