The guys who are proposing it seem really confused.

First they want to have "enclosed fish cleaning facilities which prevent birds from being attracted to the area, and important feature because of the proximity to the airport"

but they are also building a "specially designed bird watching platform" obviously for all the birds they plan on not attracting.

And then, they say that the saltmarsh habitat will be expanded, "these areas will provide additional bird habitat and attract migratory birds"

Confusing eh.

Forget the rigging area Sean...... there is little water to sail on.

wow - the competition is on between melbourne, sydney and brisbane for cargo trade.

Dredges were hard at work today in the channel in the bay... it was good to see the penguins still around.

one statement that annoyed me was "As the city of
Sydney continues to grow and more products are
manufactured offshore, the need for containers
traded through the port also grows."

why not get behind our own manufacturers in oz?

I have only driven past there so I am no expert and if I make erroneous comments, I apologise in advance. My main point is that at this present time the foreshore area along the northern side of Botany Bay seems pretty dodgy. There are truck trailers parked all over the place. Its a very busy road with lots of trucks.

There doesn't seem much in the way of facilities or amenities there, the strip of land between road and water is sandy and scrubby with no apparent open areas.

As the population of NSW increases then there will be increased demand on infrastructure like ports, roads and railways. Its good that they are planning for growth. Otherwise we will end up paying more for everything and the place will end up like Pakistan, where everything is 50 years old and breaking down.

There isn't really anywhere else they can put a container port in NSW.

Dont you think they could build it on land that is already there instead of filling in the bay? There is plenty of vacant land across the road.

I am not really that familiar with the area but I think there is a cemetary close by on a hill and there are some factories and big sheds there. I don't think there is much vacant land there but perhaps if land around the port could be used by the port, its not a bad idea to suggest them to use the land.

Why not ask the authority to look into this?

To really stop this from happening someone needs to do some diving around there and discover a snail or some crustation that only lives there and will be wiped out if they fill in the area.

They've f*cked up BB in the 80's and before with the airport extension that screwed up the place. I've seen over the years Sanderingham (Dolls Pt) beach disappear and made to reappear, and the St. George RC erode to the end. Ramsgate also receded.

I doubt there is global thinking in all this. For sure a new entity of the kind will require more dredging, and change the currents, sedimentation and beaches.

When disucussions were going on about construction of the third terminal both the existing operators suggested that thier terminals be expanded instead of having to build this new facility.

This proposal was knocked back on the basis that Sydney needs to have three operators for more competion....

Expanding the two existing terminals would not have lead to this much construction.

I have not seen this one before.

Rigging below the low water mark, I hope that someone can stretch the construction down the beach a little and build us a water based rigging area.

I don't know what's more ridiculous... the sign or the fact that the manger is called Blackadder.

That looks like its in a side street that runs off the main beach parade down near the south ramp, Henson or Shellwod street.
If the sign is offical (not bogus) means the locals probably getting upset. Still can rig etc. on the main grassed area, just not this side street.
Actually I've had a loacal ask me to move my car because it was parked infront of his house (not driveway) - I laughed - he was serious.

I've actually knocked on someones door once to ask them if I could park in their driveway if I gave them $20.00. They weren't home and shortly after that I got a spot on the road anyway. The parking in summer down there is ridiculous.

Yes the traffic down there is ridiculous during summer. I went down there a couple of times last summer. Beautiful sunny day with a nice breeze. However every man and his dog decided the same thing. The traffic on the water and off it was a sight to behold. Power boats, jet skis, windsurfers, kiters, swimmers, fishers. Wow!

Bankstown by the Bay.

I'll stick to the bathwater and pelican itch.

Besides these inconveniences, in Sydney, Kyeemagh with a NE seabreeze is hard to beat!

Very true, although for us northsiders we have to leave early just to get a park and then swelter until the wind kicks in. But Daves right, pretty clean water, long runs and consistent wind. Ful sik!!!!!!!!

Henson St, this old cat was giving me the 'look' thats when I noticed I was right under the sign. Awell "TFBR". "200m from the sign" thats just plain stupid.
Summer parking can be a bother for sure.
