I was down at Canton Beach on the 11/th- 12th to see relos, and watched the crew having a ball sailing in the cold s-wester ripping in. It looked like heaven; a clean, solid 20 knots with 2 kay runs lite up all the way. I spoke to one fellow and he said he was doing near 30 knots the whole time. Needless to say my board was safely stowed away 360 kays north. All good, was great to see more than one sailer on the water. And lesson learnt for the next trip south.

Anyway, it seemed Canton Beach is the place to head in a good southerly, but where's the go in the spring / summer nor-easters? The boat ramp at Toukley Bridge? I should know these things as I was born there, just never taken any notice as to where the sail boarders head.

Very keen to have a lash during my next visit spring.

Hey mate.

Yeah, had a look near the park Budgi. Would cop the n-e no probs. Weed city though. Looked like you'd have to take off right near the foot bridge in the creek and tack out into the lake. The shoreline was solid weed for 60 meters plus.

As for Hargraves. Sounds good, but I ain't ready for that yet! I'd had a crack at Pelo in a sensible nor-easter and waist high waves though

I wonder where the local crew down there sail during the summer months??

PS- dunno if you remember Mr Brittin from Gorokan High? Anyway, I seen him and his old VW Combi at Canton. He charges on the sailboard- legend! I Ain't seen him since he gave me the cane at 14...lol

Head 20mins north and sail Lake Macquarie. Mannering Park is good in a Nor-easter and just east from Morisset is Shingle Splitters point which is good in the same wind direction. In winter Bonnells Bay is good in SW round to NW wind. No need for a weed fin and no pelican itch.

If I remember correctly it's Ray- Been 29 years since I last seen him. I'm sure he's got the same bloody combi! Anyway, I remember back in the day he'd ride his goat boat at Norah Head when it was 6 ft and crankin'. People still talk about him. And he was leathal with the cane, standing on his principle chair for maximum impact. Arhhh, the good ol' days...

Thanks Donk.

I'm hearing you about the pelican itch. I was thinking there must be some gun spot the Toukley / Gorokan crew head on the Tuggerah Lake system in a nor-easter. Maybe they do head north to Lake Mac?
