Spent the day erecting bird netting over a row of fig trees. I found that a broken 80% carbon 430 mast repaired by taping over the cracks made an excellent light weight pole for lifting the netting over the trees, also makes an excellent centre pole for the netting. I have my wind gear mounted onto an old 460 30% carbon mast and have used a fibreglass mast as a totem tennis pole with some kite lines to extend the string.
I figure that if I recycle then I can justify buying new gear. I am thinking of a mylar greenhouse for growing tomatoes.
i got a cracked 550 100% carbon race mast as a flag pole in my back yard, so far it's handled up to 70 knots in a massive storm we had.. but the flag didn't..
Well I am using my old one piece fibreglass mast as a TV antenna mast down on the farm. It does the job admirably well and doesn't attract the lightning strikes like the metal pipe ones do.
It's a total of about 6 meters high because I have added the top section of another mast to the top. I have put a phased array antenna on it and it now gets a great reception on mosts nights.
So don't throw out your old gear. You never know what it might be good for. ![]()
I'm going to cut an old glass board into sections, glue some nice pieces of timber on each end and use them as speaker stands![]()
