I went for a kayak around Sydney's Middle Harbour on Sunday morning. I noticed the joint we got the kayaks from were using windsurfing masts to hold all their new company flags. On closer inspection I saw that they were all brank spanking new NP X6's !!!! To hold the flags they had drilled into the masts and mounted little stays. 2 stays to each mast, 2 drilled holes for each stay. I presume these holes even if filled would then render them compromised and useless to a windsurfer due to the pressures we put them under whilst rigged. I counted 10 before I couldn't bare it anymore and had to shy away in despair. 
I wonder if the place new what they were and if there is some lucky retailer out there rubbing their hands together with glee at the coin they pocketed from that sale!
i'm going to throw it out there and say you may have paid too much for your kayka if they can afford such expensive flag poles.
or WSS did a deal with them and now ave new carbon paddles as flagpoles at collaroy
I just hired em Dunk, and yeah, I reckon Sam is going to be taking a nice holiday soon with all his profit!!
also possible they have access to the wholesale price for the masts. I am guessing the wholesale price of a X6 is probably still cheaper than getting a metal pole build, weather proofed and erected by a welder.
i personally would have gone x3 for a flag pole.
What sort of flex responce does one need for flag??
They were just jammed in the sand though Steh, obviously so they could bring em in easily at the end of the day. Surely they could have used any old mast rather than forking out those kind of dollars for brand new ones!
I might add this is purely a thread born out of jealous desire 
He probably owns a couple of expensive bicycles - people who ride those "fancy" name brand bikes have no idea how much carbon fibre parts should cost !!
A case in point is a mate of mine who has a large collection of expensive bikes was showing a couple of us his new toy (some hand built titanium framed fixed wheeler imported from Russia via the UK). We noticed a couple of the bikes had the most uncomfortable looking carbon fibre seats that probably fitted quite nicely between the cheeks of his arse (I know it's a horrible image) and wouldn't have weighed more than 100g I reckon.
Those 2 seats range in price from $650 to $800 each and the carbon seat posts are about $150 to $200 for about 30 or 40cms of carbon. When asked if the seats and posts were interchangeable he said yes but couldn't really answer why he had 2 when he can only ride on one of the seats at once except that one was red and the other was black.
He still didn't bat an eyelid when I informed him that my new 430cm - 1.9kg RDM carbon fibre mast cost a hell of a lot less than his tiny seat did and was made of the same material.
He did agree that bike part suppliers DO take the piss when they see a lycra clad wallet walk through the door.....
And we think that our gear is expensive........
at least they are getting some use out of them now,not
sitting on a shelf gathering dust .just demand i suppose

There was a problem with X6's few years back They may be rejects.
Discussed on another thread.
I use a couple of X6 top sections for beach shade poles. Bottom sections both broke.
Long swim both times. Broken masts really suck. Reminded me of the dreaded old epoxy mast days.
Could there be a factory that makes flag poles where they came up with an idea to put a flash label on a flag pole saying its a special windsurfermast( hence the letter X) then whacking a silly great price on them

I'm running a 550 100% race mast as a flag pole, looks pretty pimp and can get the flag pretty high up too..
I am using a Severne code Blue mast for a handle for my concrete screed. Who would have thought you can use them for other things apart from sailing.
