I am planning a trip to WA for next years ledge to lancelin. I have not sailed this race before and would like to know what setup (board / sail / fin)would be best suited for this race given average conditions for this time of year. I have heard that you should take gear suited for long down wind reaches, any other opinions please?

A number of legs in the race are really broad so you need a board / sail to suit.
35+cm weed fin (for cray lines / weed) 7+m sail with adjustable outhaul (depending on your weight) and a 100L board are just suggestions.

how about letting us know what you weigh, and what gear you might currently have.

I weigh 80 kg and currently have a 105lt Naish SP slalom board, 34 and 41cm slalom fin and 7.3m Warp race sail.

what you have sounds ok Gman. but i'd be bringing a 8.0 aswell as the 7.3. and a weed fin is a must. The 8.0 isnt a must but you wont be powered when you are sailing deep off the wind. this is based on the past few races where its been 18-20ish knots if i recall correctly.

Surely it depends on the wind on the day...
