I'm planning to re-deck (non-slip) the Kona but would like to know what the skin is made of, it's ASA which means bugger all to me. Is ASA epoxy resin over fibreglass?
ASA is a plastic, but is not as bad as polyethylene/ polypropylene (like the old wally boards were) which nothing would stick to.... you have half a chance with ASA.
Google surface preparation for ASA and epoxy resins
I have regripped ASA boards before and haven't found them any different to an epoxy board.
Just sand back slightly, mask off, then a thin coast of uv stable anything. I have used epoxy resin, polyester resin and recently as described in another thread polyeurothane spray (cabothane). Each time I sprinkle caster sugar evenly, by using a shaker. remove masking tape before it fully dries. The spray seems surprisingly good with how grippy it is in water,as it feels quite smooth when dry.
