Weird questions mate...
I do a lot of clipping for freestyle, tried 3 times on-board cameras, but too much spinning, one sees nothing useful.
But just to answer...
Gender: every woman I've been has always come back for seconds... ![]()
Age: old, but not acting my age.
Water depth: weird mate. You have to worry about nasty falls and shock a lot more than depth.
Material: not relevant. Make it sturdy.
Where: that question doesn't work, it depends what you're making the movie for. For Tube clips showing freestyle, I find none works. For straight sailing, most of them work, but then it gets boring to watch. Nothing like an outside view, which is basically 99% of all Tubes.
Finish, buttons: you're kidding, right? This sounds like a kitchen Tupperware question...
Battery life: longer the better. More than 1-2 hours.
Screen: you're kidding, right? I find looking back at movies on the peddly little screens don't work for outside cameras, let alone on-board ones.
Shots: gotta be video. Stills and 1-sec action shots are not useful with head cams or mast cams. It's hard enough to make useful videos with on-board cams...
$$: none here. I find they don't work again, personal opinion.
Hope I didn't rain on your parade, hope some of this was useful to your project.
Nick - a little tip, offer some info about yourself first (apart from some crap about how good your are as a student (i.e: do you windsurf, where in world are you, etc?, why project, what is AS? etc)), then you will receive more feedback.
Till you do that, then you'll be without too much info I reckon

a) Male
Question 2:
What age group are you in?
e) 45-50
Question 3:
How many feet below water would you want the camera to withstand?
c) 20-30 feet (it's got to handle impacts into water at speed which do more damage than depth)
Question 4:
What materials would you prefer the camera to be made out of?
a) ABS
c) Polycarbonate
Question 5:
Where would like the camera to be mounted on?
a) Helmet
c) Windsurfing Boom
d) Windsurf board
e) Windsurfing mast

Some thing visible if it comes of and floats in water
Question 7:
What material would you want the buttons to be?
a) Rubber

b) 3-4 hours
c) 5 or more hours

all of the above
Question 13:

b) Intermediate
Question 14:
What other cameras do you use for windsurfing?
a) Helmet GOPro hero camera (with fish eye lense)
Question 15:
How much money are you willing to pay for the windsurfing camera?
b) 100-500
Question 16:
How long do you want to be able to video record with the camera?
a) 1-2 hours
memory cards are good and cheap
The Gopro Hero (fish eye) is a good camera fairly easy to use get close to an hour out of a 2Gb memory card
$10 worth of AAA batteries last approx 1-1/2hr, that hurts.
The fish eye lense is good for stability of image, but loses a lot of feel in depth of field ie you can't really see how big the wave is or how choppy the water is. if you film someone by following the anything over 15m away seems miles away.
Weight is an issue, the GP is light but you still notice it hanging of your helmet.
The GP has a good selection of mounting brackets to choose from.
I haven't got time to fill in your questionnaire, but ....
could you please make your camera able to float about 3 to 4 metres away from me (in mid air), so that it looks like someone else it taking video of me as I carve up the ocean ![]()
