I will be in Sydney for a few weeks, will have a FSW and maybe a waveboard, and sails 4.2 thru 6.5.
Maybe I will be lucky and there will be plenty of southerlies in Botany Bay, but was thinking of taking a trip or trips (cheap midweek), to somewhere reliably windy?
Suggestions for that time of year? Water temps doesn't phase me,
green island out off cairns.
if you have plenty of cash then lizard island
if you are budget starved then maybe mackay or 1770 or somewhere from central qld and north.
if you want waves maybe head to tassie.
I can be windy in Vic and Tassi at that time of year. Probably the best thing would be to check the weather map 7 days ahead, make a decision and book your flight. There are lots of direct flights to most locations from Sydney. I think you can pay for your excess luggage when you book your flight.
Try Lord Howe Island, NSW... 2 hours flight from Sydney - not cheap but always windy! Search around the lodges for a cheaper winter package

Thanks for all this info, free sailing time seems to be shrinking...
Looks like melbourne is cheapest for midweek getaway...
Any recommendations good places to sail in port phillip bay. Or is it worth driving a couple of hours.
Will be sailing on my own so nothing too narly, just somewhere easy for flat water, bump and jump sailing. 100L FSW and smaller waveboard, largest sail 6.5
Rye port phillip bay or green point in a nw is good in winter or drop in and visit the boys at the pit if it's south or east..
