I have a friend who sails a 1970's Wally in all winds and does light wind head dunks etc on it. He is fit & weighs about 56kgs. I gave him a go on my 125 Rocket & he loved it although he only did one run and managed to uphaul it etc. I gave him a go on my 95 in 20 -25kts with a 4.2m sail and he survived but needs to learn to maneouvre the board around to beach start in wind + waterstart. He's very fit and surfs , wakeboards skis etc so he should pick it up. Would this combo suit a fit beginner intermediate?
Seems like a reasonable deal for everything he would need. Your friend may find the boards a bit small in lighter winds but at least he'd be covered for sails, booms, masts and all the other stuff. Plus he has the wally for those lighter wind anyway.
I had to go out so I didn't have time before but I might Google the Tabous to see what type they are.
Heres the 96 litre board blurb although the board displayed would be an earlier version.http://www.tabou-boards.com/boards/2012/boards/3s
Maybe too much for a first foray into modern shortboards? He'd be using it in 15-25kts prob freeride / B & J type sailing..I imagine it would take him a while to get to use the smaller one. Also I think most of the sails are Neil Pryde. Is that a problem? They have masts etc to fit.
While I was on the site I enjoyed watching this video.Simple but looks fun.
The tabou's are the 3s, not the rocket.
It looks like a 3's 97 litre and 76 litre. The 3s is tabou's freewave variant - these are circa 2007. The 97 is more wave oriented than the current ones, and may not be the best for flat water blasting. That being said, they are great light wind wave for the size. The 76 3 s is a great bump and jump board, and generally fun to sail.
Could be a good deal
I would not be too quick to flick the idea. The 3's is super easy to sail, and it depends what he wants to do.
Sue that's a great deal, go for it if you can, your friend wont go wrong. Anything he wont use, you will.
Wonder if the meandering chook comes with all that gear as well![]()
Should be fine. And to top it off they have the mermaid graphics which i think are some of the best that tabou used.
Definately get the chook as well. I see there looks to be a kettle in the deal as well!!
Here's another I thought might do him..

How does it compare with the first for suitability? I suppose it would be good as it has a 100ltre. Are Areotech sails any good?
both look good, first one I though was a good deal. Second one about the same as far as a good deal goes.
If it was over here and I was needing, then I would go the first set.
Mineral.
PS glad you took a second look at the chook. and a Rhode Island Red to boot ![]()
