can anybody give me quick overview of what windsurfing conditions are like around Byron Bay?
Wind strengths, wave sailing, B and J?

Other than saying that Lennox has a good reputation, and should see some action this year in the promising SE conditions, I'm in the dark about BB, but would like to learn more too.
I wouldn't mind having some contacts in that area. It's a bit far for me to drive to just check it out without having a clue as to what it's like first.
I think the wind reading comes from the lighthouse, so it's like Double Is Point etc in that it grossly over-reads compared to the water. I suspect the Ballina graph is a better guide, but I'm not sure how well it correlates to Byron itself.
I'm happy to be wrong about that.

Should be the best time of the year now for wind - NE seabreezes.....but this year is different! We've already had about 500mm of rain so far this month?

Wind readings are taken up at the lighthouse so you could say that the wind at beach level would be about 60-70% of what they say it is?

Not the best place for windsurfing, if it was it would be banned!

Byron Bay is one of the best places on the east coast to sail ; lived there and sailed it for 15 years, worked for multi fins testing and doing developing on sail board fins for more than 10 years so I was always on the water, great for B and J and waves and very fast salom, when the wind does blow it is strong from the north ,but this year no one is getting much wind

sail from the Pass (at Byron off Lighthouse road) in northeasters. Great bump & jump, slalom, waves mostly onshore. Beware of rocks/reef about 500 metres out at low tide. In southerlies best down at Lennox or a bit further south at Flat rock (near camp ground)
