Hi guys for the last few years I've been using a JP 160L free ride (since being away from windsurfing for 10 years), but I've recently purchaced a F2 106 SX too much of a chicken **** to use it yet.we dont get heaps of wind inland near tamworth where I live, my most used sail is a 7.5 gastra .Do I use the same size sail for the 106L as I would for the 160L?or do I down size the sail also?

Not sure of the sailsize but I suspect a bit smaller.. make sure the breeze is onshore or so that if you get into trouble you'll blow onto a convenient shore then you won't have to worry so much if you can't start etc. Also if you have someone else that can sail with you to keep an eye on you that will reduce the anxiety a bit.. unless your worried about looking like a goose & then it will increase it..

The 106 should just cope with as 7.5m but it will be as bit trickier to balance in sub planing conditions. To get used to the board i would start with a smaller sail first if you have one, a 6 to 7m would be ideal.

i have a F2 SX 106, i only ever use a 7.0 on it, i found sails smaller are better suited to a smaller board. I wouldnt expect there to be a problem with running a 7.5 gaastra, they are quite a wide board. I'd go with a 40cm or larger slalom fin or you might have problems with spin out.

You can use a 7.5mtr sail with the F2 SX Medium quite easily as they can take up to 8.5 mtr according to the specs.I use a 7.5 mtr with a 38cm fin(get a good slalom fin!) on the Medium quite frequently and find that the board loves to be fully powered up and you don't get bent out of shape.
The beauty about this board is its width which will give you plenty of float(I am 95kg and it floats me easily) but it will take a bit of getting used to the shortness of the board jumping from a JP Freeride.
It will feel difficult coming from a 160 lt but if you stick with the F2 it will put a smile on your dial once you get the hang of it.
But be aware the F2 is made for slalom racing so it will not be as comfortable as a freeride board

The sx will carry a 7.5 easily. I ran mine with a 7.8 and 6.5 two sail combo.

Enjoy.

Yep. I have that board and comfortably run a 7.8m.

Is the wind reasonably constant where you sail or is it gusty? Where do you sail around at Quirindi?

Thanks for all the input.I sail at lake keepit near gunnedah, general wind can be 9 to 15 knots reasonably constant .I've seen 1 other sailboard in the last year .I don't know why people don't sail here you can park and rig on grass on the waters edge and there are no sharks!. fresh water you dont need to wash your gear after a sail and as the wind gets up the ski boats stop hey presto the lake to your self. But it is cool passing a v8 inboard ski boat and seeing the look on their face

Keepit is a great lake/dam. I would imagine the wind is fairly consistant there as the land is fairly flat and there are not many trees around there. I windsurfed once there a long time ago. I guess with all this rain the dam would be full too.

That sort of wind strength would be great for something like a formula board and bigger sail.
