I use a 4.2 in a constant 37-40 kn..... on two wind meters, not estimated... when I'm 100kg and on a 80L (
).
Same wind my skinny mate uses 3.2 and is seriously hanging on and stuffed after half an hour.
Anyone of average weight who reckons they use a 4.2 in a solid 50..hmmm.
Maybe in 40kn with 2 sec peaks of 50kn every few minutes.
4.2 in 50 PLUS ..... no way.
Mark,
The Gorge is an odd wind strength area, we used to sail quite a lot in wind's of 50kn. plus using similar size sails. The wind will read very strong on a meter but didn't have as much gut's to it compared to other place's around the world so I have no doubt that it was 50kn. plus. AUS 1111 has been there too and should back me up on this - I hope
.
Mark,
There's a bit more to it, the narrower part's are really windy where as the wide part's can be half the strength and the middle of the river will be howling and the edge's light. I alway's thought that 50kn. in the Gorge equate's to 35-40kn. real windspeed - it's one of those place's you really have to go to understand I guess.
AND..... eevveryyone knows that wind speed increases the higher you go so once he got to an altitude of, say 400 to 500 hundred feet (that's what it looked like to me anyway) it would have been at least 70 knots and I would have bailed out as well.![]()
It wouldn't have been a jetstream trailing behind me either -- more like a sh_tstream.![]()
I think he was still going up when he bailed...
I don't reckon it's 50 knots on the water, coz sailing in 50 with a 4.2 would be impossible
BUT
about 3 or 4 metres into that jump he has been hit by one almighty gust and just lifted into the stratosphere!
I can't recall ever seeing anyone just keep rising like that so who knows, it probably was 50 up there in the air. It definitely gets to 50 pretty regularly in the narrow parts of the Gorge.
i would have loved to have seen the Pryde Alpha and the KA Koyote and Kult added into that mag review.
Speaking of triples, I know Ricardo was working on them but I have never heard of anyone sticking one. Has it ever happened?
Wow he almost went as high as one of my smaller jumps i did today kiting.Almost.
Keep up the good work boyz![]()
(logging out now)
yep I knew of Tony- he was landing double forwards, dunno about backloops. Another big jumper... must be a gorge thing.
Notwal there is footage in one of the pozo vids I think of someone landing a triple.
I think kiters need to become aware that the height of their kite does not equal the height of them [}:)]
