I normally never wear any flotation like life jackets or anything, but when racing comes round they mention it being compulsory. so i pull out an old standard pfd 2 life jacket which awkwardly fits over my waist harness. Is there any other solution? i wear a helmet, can that b counted as flotation? probs not but im sick of the life jacket riding up and being in the way all the time..
any thoughts on better products or if its necessary for these events?
i don't know what they are but they are like the naish chest vest but they have a backpack built in this is what a lot of the windsurfers use in SA. I think they are more for portection than flotation but it would offer a bit.
Cheers Pittsy
Steller_3 found a flash picture like Haircut put up ,the NP High Hook jacket has the cut out for the hook and a loop that slips through the harness hook to keep the jacket down and the hook up in place.
Better close up here from Reg's sitehttp://www.windsurfingperth.com.au/acc/np2006.html
here is a tip I have used, so you don't want to outlay for a new PFD for the 4 times a year you might use it, just wear an old rashie over your current one.
I found that helps keep everything in place a lot better, helps stop the PFD riding up, and by tucking the rashie under your harness keep you free from tangles.
Added bonus...it makes you look huge. Very intimidating to the other racers ![]()
The Neil Pryde high hook harnesses are really good. Ive got on and it doesnt ride up when in the water at all. I dont know if they would qualify for racing though. That would depend on their minimum pfd level requirements.
Good pouch in front to store spare rope, keys, zinc etc too.
Try some of those yellow kiddy safe arm floaties or wear a life saver ring over your harness, that should do the trick, also you could use a pool pony just strap it to your back.
I just stuff a pool noodle down the front of my boardshorts. Keeps me afloat and looks very impressive.
Hi Guys does anyone know how much the Neil Pryde PFD is?I have been told to expect to pay $250 for one which seems a bit step.
I paid $120-$140 about a month ago from WindSurf n Snow NSW. (site sponsor) Cheapest I could find. They mailed it and i had it 2 days later. Highly recommended
I never wear any, but I had a good scare last weekend.
Considering your recomm now. Never too old to learn...
