hey guys.
ive been reading the forums for a while now and i finally decided to join after i bought my first windsurfer.
ive got an older style neil pryde v6 with a mistral score v84, man i wouldnt think id get so addicted to this sport. so make me feel welcome!
id love to come for a sail with you guys one day once i learn to gybe ahaha
Bryce
Mate, you really don't need to be able to gybe to sail with us...
...as long as you can fall off in an amusing manner you'll be welcome anywhere...(seriously)![]()
ahahaha thanks guys.
ive never really bothered to learn how to gybe because i just like going fast, but i realised yesterday i can go fast for longer if i dont have to throw it over and swim it round ahaha.
im near cronulla, but i most sail out of georges river and kyeemagh.
but one day ill give it a go in the waves.
if anyone is keen for a sail on sunday feel free to join me at georges river:)
Bryce
i was actually just looking at that stuff mineral1
i wouldnt mind going down to watch and have a ride next time the guys are doing some runs.
im only a learner though so im not going to be putting out some fast times.
My two bits - I sailed a lot those areas long time ago (when I was too short of time to drive to Wanda or elsewhere). In the summer you want to get out to Sanderingham or Dolls Pt and catch the NEsters full on. Right where McMorelands used to be.
Winter's gonna be **ty there, get out to Kurnell, at least.
About gybing: you just have a good time mate. This is not a black-white thing, it's something you work at and improve your entire life. We're all the same in different degrees, that's all.
However, should you insist that it's important, then learn by keeping the reaches short and do it often, and on both sides. Don't go for an hour and then forcibly gybe, just keep plugging at it. Transitions are fun anyways.
Cheers.
thanks for the welcomes guys :)
i almost gybed yesterday a few times i just keep not changing my feet before i flip the boom. so as soon as i sheet on again i get thrown.
i got my first tack aswell it was dodgy as hell. the board sunk to waist deep in the water but somehow i managed to get it up and planing.
do you guys ever do meets? like you turn up with as many sailing friends as possible and just hoon around?
For the gybes, have a search for gybing threads - there's loads of good info on technique.
Personally, I leave my front foot in the footstrap until I've fully gybed, then change. Saves upsetting the board mid-turn. Others have different opinions though...
Good work on the tack!
damn saturdays dont work because i race skiffs on both days, but i can usually trade a sunday race for sail boarding.
do they go on the bay during winter also?
Whats it like on a skiff, I've been windsurfing and sailing on a yacht. Is the skiffing kind of like a combo between the two? A few years ago the 18 footers were hot with betting and on the TV. Is it still like that?
its great fun mate.
yeah i guess its a combo of windsurfing and yacht racing.
but when its windy you have a sketch factor and you cant help but get a dirty grin on your face when going down wind.
if you wanted to have a go mate id be more than happy to take you out on my sponsors boat?
