if you were rigging a high strung sail and using zero '0' cm for the mast length and you mast extension is only bout 12cm long would it eventually crack open or create
some on the bottom of the mast? i have noticed there's a tinnie gap when downhauled hard and is it same with the opposite when it's long like 45cm when the mast bends would the tip be rubbing against the side of it![]()

i used a mast base with 0 ext for 3 years. it was 3cm longer at 15cm.rigged a 5.0m race sail with it and no problem.
i can slipe my 45cm mast extention right into my 400 mast and use no exteniton on the mase base .. i would of though the mast base would bend slightly but that bottom 50cm of mast does have a lot of bend in it anny ways..
ok then i have noticed no bend to but i've seen sailworks mast with a ring at the bottom most part for some reason probably to protect it thanks tho![]()
Amazing !
I feel like a time traveller 200 years into a post-apocalyptic future listening in to a conversation in a language so degraded that I can't understand it.
Guess he means that he's worried that, because the extension is of smaller diameter than the internal diameter of the mast. the top of it is going to rub when downhaul pressure is put on.
You could shim it with plasic if you're worried........ but I wouldn't be!
Don't use tape!
Use of ext on left = 0 ext ? is that the load points are so close together ,usually a little play in fitting and load point on inside by pulleys and only a few cm above on opposite side of mast.A normal extension spreads the load further up into the mast.Hope this helps those who are a little lost.
I was concerned about the same issue but after using zero ext on several sails/masts over the last few years haven't had any problems.
