Tell her does she really want to be seen as a "lure" skipping across the ocean when there is not enough wind to get going. All those silver harness buckles flashing and the bright "Gill" coloured flashes all over the gear. Much safer sitting on top of the board with your legs tucked up.

I'm pretty amazed at the first two words, so if I were you I would just give her what she wants.

Quit while you are ahead. Time to become a kitesurfer.

I have an easy answer to your question, Tell her
"KITESURFING IS LAME"
Anyway, more skill is needed to windsurf, meaning more FUN!!!
And any kiters who browse this forum, don't red thumb me, you know its true!!!

Yeah, sorry. Anything that keeps you occupied is a good thing!

Why not get her to take kiting lessons, and that way you get no problem with going sailing, and she gets to blame someone else for learning to kite.

My advice is let her do it and if she is like most, but not all, chicks she will not want to stick with it because they don't like being skull dragged along the beach face down while learning. My missus said she wanted to give it a go so we i got her a couple of lessons and bought her a kite, board and harness all good new stuff and at the end of the second lesson she said to me can i have have a go on your windsurfing gear to see if i like it and she never wanted to kite again and she was keen as before that.
Apparently this happens more often than not from what i've been told so it depends on what sort of chick yours is but most don't seem to to like getting overpowered until they learn bar control and how to de-power the kite in gusts.
So after that i bought her windsurfing gear including a new board, sail, boom, harness etc and she has since pulled the pin on that too. So the next purchase was a new banana chair and she sits in the park and watches. It's all good though she wanted to try these things but in reality she didn't feel comfortable trying to learn the control for wind powered sports.
You never know maybe yours will be the same but hopefully doesn't give up on the windsurfing. The numbers tell the story i suppose i mean how many guys are windsurfing and kiting in relation to girls maybe 20 to 1

You shouldn't do anything, other than support her in what she wants to do.

She could have a lesson on a floaty sailboard and just stand there and bob about and go along. She might get into it. She might not. If not, no harm done and no great expense, unless you buy special gear for her.

With a kite she can have a lesson or two, learn to fly the kite and body drag and that is kind of fun. Maybe spend $100-200 on a trainer kite to whiz around on the beach.

The chances of her getting up and riding in the first few weeks are pretty slim. (I have known expert skiers, surfers, sailors, paraglider pilots take weeks to crack it.)

If she's keen and athletic she just might get right into kiting. Then you can sit on the beach and watch her ripping about while you wait for the wind to get strong enough. When that happens she might be tired out and happy to relax on the beach while you go out sail.

An alternative for her might be SUP. It's dead easy to do and you can carry the board for her. Maybe get one with a mast track so you can sail it with a small rig.

Let her try both.... and nature will take its course....

Kiting is pretty popular with the ladies, I guess because there is a lot of fashion that goes with it, you can get all p1mped up in boardies over wetties and stuff... which can be fun for that kind of folk...... and it won't be too bad for you trying to race her around if she takes it up.....

But let her know, kiting restricts her locations for launching, usually need someone to give you hand intially for launching and recovery... and well, you don't have the time for that when you are out on your board........ so the pros and cons might help her do the maths and she'll see - windsurfing is best

Let her. Better she learn that and be able to share the water with you than be one of those bored beach wives that nag whenever you want to go for a sail. This way both of you can share the wind. I wish my wife wanted to go into the water full stop. I cant even get her out on a sup.

Spot on BB, my missus was super keen to kite, but I said no, no no!
So I came home with a 4.2 Severne proto (super light) and a 127 liter board, the rest I scrounged up from the shed.
Rigged it up for her, about 10 times, and 1 year on she can waterstart, almost jybe and thinks kiters are gay.
We recently got married!

Way to go!!
I gave my gf her first lesson 2 weekends ago (Starboard start and 5.5m), she loved it and is keen to get back on the water when conditions are right - best not to scare her off by sending her out in 20 knots

Its all about giving people a great experience when they are starting out, if you do that the rest is just whether its 'their thing' or not.

Just convince her there's no soap in it . Worked with Mrs Piranha, an ex-pat Pom.
