Great pictures. I sailed there a few times in the mid nineties when I lived in the Illawarra. It was great to drive down there with a few windsurfing mates and sail the NE seabreeze there. Tons of people sailing too.

Recently we went there and it looked absolutely sh!t.

Good post pwatts22 . Brings back memories. It certainly was a great place to sail at.
Waves to jump on the way out and smooth water to gybe on when coming back in.
Im amazed at the amount of water there in the pic of 1988 when it busted open

Amazing pics thanks! I sailed there a lot in 86/87/88 and also up the river near Ferry Lane and Pig Island. Great days. Scored plenty of waves at the Bombie too. Often I think back about how those were some of the greatest, certainly most carefree days of my life. Used to run an Air sail too.

We were at Shoalhaven Heads last year and from the look of it compared to 15 years ago is the river mouth is completely closed. So its now a back water and it looks like its very shallow and has silted up.

There still is windurfing in the summer NE's but the entrance never really opens up, only sailable for any distance at high tides and the shallow sand flats restrict use of large fins, good learning cruising spot with handy car park and grassy bank to rig up, hope to see it again like the pictures in my windsurfing lifetime also Geroa is at the other end of the beach and Sanctuary Point is not far to travel for flat water that is not tide dependant.
