A mate and I are booked to head to perth from the 7th Feb till the 12th feb for a bit of a windsurfing week and change of pace from sydney life...

Seeking some assistance from those of you in the know about where is the best place to stay and what could we do for a car?

We are intermediate to advanced sailors and are looking for calmish (seas) water right thru to bump and jump sorta stuff. Not looking for 20 metre waves just yet...

Where would you be staying? We were thinking scarborough and sail from north beach or possibly south near freemantle???

Looking for a van or something like that.

Could you suggest a hotel or apartment we could stay in closest to the beach?

Thanks peeps :)

Simon

ps. if you want to come with, pm me ur details in exchange for mine etc etc

thanks again

Had a trip over there from Qld in Dec hired a 3 berthcamper van from Myaree car rentals, picked it up at the airport and dropped it off there as well, good service and good people to deal with every thing went smooth.Good to have wheels to travel and sleep and have an ice cold beer waiting in the fridge at the end of a big session.

I think that Scarborough gets some quite big swell mate so your best bet would be south near Freo, then you could sail leighton beach - nice and flat or next beach north - Dutch Inn (Dutchies to the locals) gets a bit of swell on an offshore reef but watch locals going out and coming in as there are a lot of rocks!
If you want bumb and jump you can drive 30 mins south to Safety Bay!
As for places to stay, i reckon NBR nailed it with the camper van and beer theory!!

Hope this is of help!

Scarborough probably isn't the place to sail for you. There is a strong along-shore current when the wind and waves combine that make getting planning out through even a small swell difficult for anyone less than an experienced wavesailor. Not much chance of rig damage in the small waves, but gets frustrating and tiring. Leighton Beach, Dutch Inn, Woodmans Point (if you want some speedsailing and chop jumping), are all good to the south. Pinaroo Pt to the north is OK if you don't mind weed and kiters.

Else, if you are going to come all the way from over east, make the most of what the west has to offer and head up to Lancelin and stay a night or two. Flat water / waves / dunes / surf / pub / camping ground....it has it all and everyones tastes are catered for. Its only a little over an hour's drive from the centre of Perth.

if your on a budget try wicked camper vans....

do a search for windsurfing in WA and you'll get a good list of spots, not much swell this time of yr, so no 20m waves ...

you can't travel all the way here from sydney, with your gear and not do a road tri p and just stay in Perth,,,,, It's against the LAW!

If you are getting a camper van and are coming this far it would be criminal not head north to Coronations!

Dont worry about the forecast, its to early to tell - it WILL change!!!

I can keep an eye on the graphs while your over here and try and direct you to the best place accordingly and if i can make it for a sail then thats a bonus!

Im only doing bump and jump stuff at the mo and a little bit of wavesailing so if you are hardcore I may hinder you but we can still meet if ya want!

Alfredo if the wind is no good around perth, you would be mad not to either drive north to Gero if forecast is good there, or south to somewhere like denmark/albany or esperence if the forecast is good on south coast, there'll be wind somewhere, check the graphs, and be prepared to drive, we do when needed

Check albany

Have a look at the Albany forecast which suits Denmark as well, the inlet there is brilliant on an easterly: www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/wa2.asp

The level you guys are talking about would be well suited to the Wilson Inlet in Denmark which is about 4 hours drive south of perth, a doddle in WA terms, you'd be mad to miss it, if it was your only option. I have sailed that inlet on an easterly and it's brilliant.
