Definitely, I was just getting over a busted achilles tendon when I decided to buy a newer board to replace the old one I had been slogging along on for 6 months trying to learn. After the second session on this one, the board started to really take off, it seemed to get really light underfoot and I realised for the first time I was actually planing!
Never get tired of the feeling, just love getting out there even if the younger guns go screaming past I get great enjoyment in just being there. Also to the younger guns, just do it, love to see you going fast and stretching the limits.

Kpd, I know how you feel. Things are just starting to come together for me. Sure, still have to look at my feet to find the straps, run through the steps mentally before making a gybe, etc, but fundamentally I can now (finally!) sail! Loooong way to go, but it's pretty amazing seeing the pieces fall into place hey. With success, comes success

Sounds like you're on the right track also. Happy sailing mate

Hey mate, something Cribbs recently taught to us VICs was to feel for the back strap with your back foot, then go for your front foot, then the back foot. Totally takes away the looking part (which makes for nice catapults!).

Cheers.

Cheers K Dog, I'll try that one out.

I don't know what level / stage you're up to KPD, but it seems to me once you can make around 90 perecent of gybes without falling off you have reached a very fun level. I still mess up 30 percent or more, (but make 70 perecent!) so now I'm not spending half the day in the water as my mates fly past. Definitly a buzz when things come together hey. I recon the less time spent floundering in the water the better!

Remember that first planing moment, was going to cancel my lesson and the instructor basically said i had to come down because the forecast was so good. Don't remember much about the lesson butif or one short moment of sudden acceleration, being totally out of control, board whacking the chop! That was it for me! Just hooked! Hope the beginners stick with it long enough to have that moment!
