I went for a 4.3m v2. Only a few sessions so far on it. Upwind angles and stability are great. Still not liking the stash and redeploy compared to my 3.6m Powerpack, which is best in class I think. Pros and cons of both wings. Custom colours on my v2 are looking sweet.

Hey Bwalnut, cool and very detailed review.

Do you think a double skin/ hybrid would be better for the really high winds? Maybe the Paia or pt hybrid instead of a 2.4m PR?

We had a big storm in Perth a few weeks ago and most riders had a 3 or 3.6 as their smallest parawing. Everyone was really struggling to control them even just going downwind. No one was really even attempting to go upwind. I am 105kg and got caught out on my 3m pt skin not able to control the wing well enough to get going again. I’m wondering if a 3m pt hybrid would give me that epic top end control but still enough low end to use on the high 20’s low 30’s days that we get more often here. I don’t think I’d get much use from a 2.5m, maybe just a couple times a year during big storms.

I think the 3.1m hybrid could be the ticket for you. I pushed that into some really high winds and found it ridiculously capable. If you can wait a bit, I get the 2.4m and 3.1m LTX's around the 10th and am hoping those are my new high wind slayers!

I have about 150 sessions on the V1’s.
I purchased 3 3.6 and 4.3 in the v2 pr and now have about 4 sessions on the v2’s.
Yes they pack up quicker but the stiff lines are a pain in the backside. Yes they have much more top end but have lost the light bar pressure and the bottom end.
So far I am pretty disappointed and will only mention a few things that I am sure of as it’s early days.
Upwind is no where near as good as v1 and as someone who upwinds to downwind this is not negotiable.
The 4.3 tips seem to collapse way too easy and this seems to occur on the tip closest to the water and results in the last 30cm of leading edge tucking up inside the other leading edge lines and get fully stuck there forcing the wing to rise radically up. To untuck requires pulling on the last leading edge lines violently.
I feel like this is happening in the downwind turbulence of the board. This is possibly causing instability in the 3 and 3.6 sizes when it momentarily collapses it doesn’t tuck up and stay there but does cause the wing to rise up without warning.
Give me my v1’s any day.
Makes me wonder what the likes of these reviewers are doing when testing. Hydrofoil gavs review of the v2 is flawless.
It’s like we got a v2 designed around a response to all the whinging.

I have the 4.3m fors 2 weeks and tested it from 12 to 28knt. Im very happy with it. Never experienced tips folding at all, even in extreme wing in upwind or downwind.
I owned ensis, naish, brm and frigate. This is by far the best of all them.
Im waiting for the 2.4m so I will report when it arrives.
Im not surprised about the vertical movement, my BRM 2.4m kanaha used to do so, I always blamed the short lines for these nervous movement.

I’ve had two more parawing sessions over the weekend. Took the 4.3m out in the upper end of its wind range. Was gusting 30knots. Wing tips folded over at max wind and felt pretty hard to control. Had the 3.6m Powerpack on my back so swapped in the water. This was much more controllable. Probably due to smaller size more than design. For my weight (85kg) i reckon the 3.6m is the optimum size parawing when correctly powered up. Not too small and twitchy but enough power to lean into it.

Today was lighter around 20knots and the 4.3m felt great. I need to work on harness line placement I think and maybe go to a two point line. I feel the PRv2 wants to ride with more back hand pressure. Not a fan of gybing the PRv2 in light wind. I figured out the stash and redeploy better today and had a lot more success. Just takes more care and effort to stow neatly than my powerpack.

Hey baldy can you do me a favour. When riding fast and hard up wind just drag the tip a little on your 4.3 and tell me if it tucks up behind the leading edge and stays there. It doesn’t need to be overpowered at all just angling hard and get the tip near the water.
thanks

I have the same feeling in terms of back hand pressure, maybe that is part of the problem, back lines are mainly steering, and it looks like in those videos with vertical movement is happening when the bar is fully on depower mode.

It’s not at all about the brake line pressure.
The tips seem to have less angle of attack with some wash out maybe. So when pushing very hard up wind or when the gusts are shifting direction the tips can stall easy and especially when close to or brushing the water. Once the tip stalls the line geometry is such that the tip tucks up and gets stuck there. I can make it stall on the 3 and 3.6 but they don’t get stuck up there.
When I check the included angle between my tacks they are still a good 10 to 15 degrees less than the v1 when this is occuring pushing hard upwind.
The v2 goes upwind better than the pp but not by that much.

My 3m PT skin gets a bit twitchy and wiggles up and down a bit when it’s at its top end, especially in gusty conditions. I find a bit of back line pressure really helps this and smooths it out. Obviously different wings so I don’t know if that’s relevant but works for me.

Yeah a 3.1 hybrid is definitely on the wish list but I just scored a bargain on a 4.3 hybrid and at my weight it should cover me from about 18 knots up to low 30’s which is about 80% of our good wind days here in Perth. The wing for the really nuking days will have to wait for a while.

The LTX looks great and I’d definitely be interested to hear your thoughts on it. I was considering a 4.2 LTX but thought maybe the lines would be a bit short for my liking. A 5.5 LTX looks absolutely mint for my biggest size.

Have ridden the 4.3m PR V2 twice now, gusty crappy conditions. Not much of an upgrade over my Frigates as far as performance, upwind and speed. Main win is the collapse which is way better. A bit more stable in gusts with less flapping but harder to sort out in the water and get back in the air. Ends stick in the water and the lines still tangle more than the Frigate lines. Big win is how comfortable it is in gusts rock solid no flapping. Adding up all the small wins I am very happy. 🎉

I definitely don't want to discourage any trouble shooting and at the same time I want to clarify something about the video vs my experience. The video was meant to show the sail behavior, it wasn't meant to reflect my personal control inputs. When I was using the 2.4m it was still in the middle of its wind range and I definitely wasn't trying to depower it. In fact, I was trying to stay powered. So, I don't think that my control issues were related to sheeting too far out.

I will not agree that the lines tangle more, the frigate lines are horrible, plus the frigate tends to fold tips more in high winds. I guess it depends on the size and how old are the lines, but the stashing experience with the frigate 4,7m was so bad that I went back to BRMs

I do really appreciate the honest review, this is extremely helpfull; but I want to explore all options and points of view before taking a decision to change my order. In any case, my experience with the 4.3m is different to what was said here, and I talked the other day with a 3m V2 owner and he as extremely happy with it. So I don't know if we are talking about a manufacturing issue here. In any case thanks for the heads up and advice.

Something that has been remarkable to me is that across platforms the commentary in response to this review has been a little mixed on larger sizes. Some people are loving them and others not so much. I did not expect that. Before publishing, I hadn't heard anything but praise for the larger sizes, and thought my 3.6 was great.

I also did some dw/uw laps with a friend this week. He went out on his new 2.4 v2, but ended up going back in to swap it out for his power pack.

What I'm hearing over here in Tarifa is that is that the v2 pulls more and wind range seems to be moved to the lower wind side of the spectrum which I tend to agree with 4.3 m for now.

I have the ozone pr v2 2.4 and my experience is that it only starts working with gusts of 28 knots and upwards for me . Aka the solid black zone on their chart . Average wind speed can be lower but the gusts need to be up there. I come from a windsurfing background and my experience at least in Norway is that stronger winds bring a greater difference between average speed and the gusts hence when I windsurf a 3.6 sail it can feel quite twitchy / on and off. Same could be said for parawings so I’m not at all surprised it feels a bit nervous. Haven’t had the chance to ride it much but it certainly saves the day when my daily driver (north rover 3.5 ) becomes a handful and wants to take me with it… 😂

Anyone got thoughts on the 5.7 pr v2? I am wondering if I should replace my 5.4 pt skin with a 5.7 pr v2 or maybe a 5.5 ltx ?? ( or just keep the PT skin coz I’m pretty happy with it)

Not sure the PR V2 is a huge update. It just fixed the issues with V1 like the lines. I went from PR V2 4.3 to Frigate 3.5 today in gusty onshore winds and really there was no noticeable difference in performance. The only reason I got them was for the collapse in powered conditions eg cross off waves and the PR V2 shines there. Still struggling with the lines they do not stow as easily as the Frigate.

Just grabbed the 5.7 V2 to get a bit more low end(also have the 5'4m PT skin which I highly rate) - only one quick session so far, but does seem to have more grunt and lines seem shorter.
Pretty happy with gybing ability for such a big wing. Stashed canopy size is large. Did get the wingtips stuck in a few times when redeploying, not sure why but probably operator error.
Seemed harder to control in 20 knots than the 5.4m PT.
Need some more sessions to give a decent comparison, but will post when I do.

I got out on my 4.3m PRv2 again in 15-20knots. More suitable wind range for it. Tried to stall the tips on the water and force them to collapse, but it was working fine. I’ve only felt out of control at the very top of the wind range in this wing like 25-30knots.

I found when gybing a quick tug on the inside back “black” D lines helps pivot the wing when the wind is light. This seems to have solved the lack of response in light wind for turning for me.

overall happy with all ozone products purchased to date. I will keep the 3.6m powepack for another season as my small wing for stashing and riding. Currently taking both wings out on every session and switch around on the water depending on wind and how I’m riding.

Agreed, lines are kinda like wire and don't want to stow. I still like the V1 lines better despite the (rare anymore) tangles.

Yeah I think you’re right. In a recent podcast ( up on foil) Aljaz Valic 777 designer said that there are limitations in the physics of a single skin airfoil. Coming from a kitiing background I have ridden 5m kites kite foiling in 30 knots and been totally comfortable but with a parawing a 4.2m barely holds up above 25knots. When I got a good session on the pt hybrid ( thanls sheps) that was the closest I have felt to the easy, smooth, fast upwind that I felt kite foiling.

As soon as I tried the pt-Hybrid in good conditions I bought one... after that I came back to single skins several times in strong winds (mostly to let my friends try the hybrid) and they felt so far off... unstable, unpredictable and lacking performance upwind... In bigger sizes for light wind I still prefer the single skin (should try the LTX soon) but as soon as it gets good it's a no brainer....
