Lots of good and reasonable points there pweedas. I know that a lot of people just want more stuff so will put up with the downside of mining but if I had the choice I would vote for
You having Lang's money . What Would we get out of it ?
Cheaper housing?
Less traffic
More fish, uncrowded waves empty camping sports
And a "real" future fund , millions of tonnes of ore saved in the ground for future generations
1 very happy pweedas
What is often forgotten is many of these people raise the funds for the operation by selling shares (parts of the state and future earnings)to foreign interests
So while calling her fat is wrong in this debate I am starting to wonder if traitor is too strong?
That's like saying that if you are skilled at convincing young women to remove their pants, you must be theDoctor....
Wait...what...?
Yeah. That'll work really well... NOT
Hey here's an idea.
There are lots of new iron ore companies starting up just crying out for people to get involved and finance the startup. Gindalbie east of Geraldton. Grange resources down eaast of Albany, and a few others. You can buy into any of them at bargain basement prices. About 50 cents per share. DIRT CHEAP! Then when you've put all your money into them you can make sure you give all your profits back to al the people who didn't put any money into them.
You could be a real hero. Totally broke,.. but a real hero. ![]()
Is that why Castro always went to America when he wanted medical treatment ?
Their health service is great if you want a sticky plaster on a wart or something simple.
If you want anything which needs a bit of expensive medical equipment you are in deep excrement.
On the subject of Cuba, I saw an interesting doco called (I think) "the power of community".
It is the story of how Cuba handled 'peak oil' after the collapse of the soviet union. Perhaps it would be a good test case for the rest of us once we have burnt the last of the fossil fuels...
What about Norway, has a huge sovereign wealth fund generated from oil, it taxes private companies operating in there fields and is also directly involved through a state owned and run company. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State%27s_Direct_Financial_Interest
Brazil also has direct interest in their petroleum industry that is part of there current economic rise.
Why cant we retain more of the wealth created by digging up our ground. We only get one chance to do it.
The current set up is crook, letting the mining companies manipulate our political system and dictate terms is bull****.![]()
