Just had a weeks holiday in Bali and am pretty shocked at how expensive it is. Australian prices for everything from coffee to clothes to food. If you hunt around you can find cheap stuff, but in general it's pretty expensive. And then there's the traffic & angry, rabid dogs.... so I'm looking for alternatives to Bali, any suggestions?

ha ha yeah Whitsundays could be a goer. No idea of costs though. I was sort of thinking of somewhere like Lombok - supposedly it's Bali 20 years ago.

Kuta Lombok, more like Bali 30-40 years ago. The place is rapidly developing though.

+1 Kuta Lombok, very nice friendly people but still got plenty of rabid dogs

Kuta Bali's just full of bogans.

only if you want it to be

stop trying to live beyond your means

enjoy experiences outside of what 'things' cost

holidays should not be at the economic expense of someone else

the people you think laud it over you, because your 'hard earned dollar' is worth more than their 'hard earned dollar', even though they work harder, and put up with more crap yet have less for their dollar

We just got back from Phuket, stayed in 5 star resort, adults 2 kids, 10 days spent $1500 cash and we did not scrimp, if we wanted something we got it, I was impressed at how cheap things were, we did not go for a dedicated shopping holiday, just a chill session.

have to agree, we had a great driver for a few days ,who was alawys happy to go the extra effort. when i realize that his daily rate ,including the top condition vehicle was only slightly higher than my hourly, rate , it is a bit embarrasing. we were always careful to invite him to join us at meals along the way, and gave tips that almost embarrased him.. If bali was too expensive , maybe your doing something wrong

family holiday in bali,
say dinner for four with drinks and lots to eat $60

taxi home in bali $5
taxi home in perth $30 +

I can live a lot more in bali, for a holiday and live it up a little

Learnt from experience the best recommendation about INDO is dont make one

Some ones pleasure is always someone else pain, that goes for surf breaks, hotels, and eating out

The only true real value is getting away from the Australian politics , political correctness, foot massage , the arts / culture, oh and getting bogan TATOOS

What a filthy dirty $hit hole, if i wanted a bunch of Asians yelling at me to buy over priced fake knock offs i can go to patties markets
Been once never again, maybe let bogans go over but not let them back
Ban the bogans from 're-entering Australia .............
"Ban the bogans" party
They have got my vote

And Phuket is 30-40% more expensive than the rest of Thailand. Nice spot though.

Nai Harn on Phuket is a super nice part of this world, it actually did remind me of Seminyak in in the early 90's.

I was there last weekend, had good waves as well. Lots of kiters, surfers, windsurfers and russian girls to look at.

Note that its the non West Aus crew that dis Bali. If it was at your doorstep you would use it more and relise its a top spot.
My 1st time there was sh!thouse but after a few years and pressure from wife i went back and loved it. Been back several times since.

Just set my mrs and i $1000 to go there for a week everything included. Take another k for spending but always come back with change.
