Looks like gone are the days where it was a bunch of action sports geeks trying to make cool toys. The accountants and lawyers are now running the company.
RIP GoPro ![]()
Note for us all - unless you want a scary-o-gram from the GoPro legal team, don't say anything bad about their product. ![]()

im just so over the go pro thing..
hate it when all helmet cam narcissists are recording everything..all the time..all around them, and themselves.
i dont want to be filmed by you, bugger off.
its just become bizarre.
it needs to be renamed the "ego pro"
It's all about "look at me"
I refuse to use, and very rarely watch anything done on a go pro
It's such a shame
they used to be such a good company great customer service and great ethics . . . seems they've just grown to big/corporate
the fact still remains that there isn't a company out there that can match their image quality, white balance response etc. . . .
they seem to be joining a list of companies that are expanding with little to no regard for either the rest of the industry they are from or their perception by joe public.
They're gonna end up as another Best Kites or Burton with these lack of morals
I got a contour years ago when the first HD mod came out. Go pro was around
but I didnt wont to be just another one of the sheep. The contour dos'nt look
as stupid on ya head cause its smaller from front on. just wish they would
bring out a new one to compete with the gopro black.
I have to say I find the constant Go Pro footage really annoying and can only be fun for the rider filming themselves. Why do they feel the need to share a lot of meaningless footage with us is beyond comprehension.
I'll probably get a letter from their lawyers now so I'll write my response now. GFY.
GoPro "Selfie" photos are mostly gay!
GoPro "footage" is shakey and crap, at best.
Disclaimers for above;
1) GoPro includes all GoPro & Hero models.
2) "Footage" also means "motion picture", and "video".
3) George Greenough set the benchmark in 1967, with heavy 16mm celluloid motion picture quality equipment... George's heavy equipment actually smoothed out the shakes that ultra-light/compact "Hero" suffer so badly from. Fark me, "Hero" is such an average format! I hate that crap! ![]()
4) You need a license to drive a car, but you don't need a license to raise kids, run a business, or operate a "GoPro" (including all "Hero" models)... And take a look at how many ****ty businesses operate, and how much bad GoPro (including "Hero") footage there is!! ![]()
Galah Said;
And you thought GoPro was a "good" company...
Simondo Said;
No, I always thought they were crap!
(But good luck to them for cashing up, and cashing out! - did they cash out...? They should...)
Forget the GoPro. I just bought GoPro mounts and glued them on the nose of all my boards, a clamp on my boom, mast tip, helmet etc.
With 10 different mounts I find chicks just flock to me and say (all breathless like) "u must be famous and sponsored do u wanna, well, y'know..?"
Sik. Sik.as.fk.
Check out all my footage on facevimeochoob. It is all from a weird angle that makes the wave look ankle hi and me like I am doing the robot dance in 1985, and the world has 10x more horizon curve, yes we all live on a marble. But I reckon I am a hot sailor and people really like my sailing. Word.)
The selfies, quality, blowing locations blah blah blah...
The worst part about gopros is you cant lie anymore. Was it really a 10 second tube? Did you really have waist deep untracked powder to yourself? Did you really use a croc as a slider? With a confident tone you could answer 'yes' to your mates at the pub and they'd be none the wiser that you actually spent the morning with your leggie wrapped around your big toe in the shorie.
But now its all on bloody film. No more lies, no more classic story tellers!!!
I personally find a handful of tall stories infinately more interesting than a thousand selfies of dudes going back and forth and feeling the need to prove to the world they can go back and forth by posting the gopro evidence all over the itraweb.
I've been badmouthing GoPoo for years publicly, as a professional in the POV industry (since the first video version of GoPro was released).
NEVER had a threatening letter from them - have had a number of emails from the GoPro head of worldwide distribution begging me to give them more of a chance (for them to treat me better, they never did). Worst POV company I've ever had to deal with.
Drift Ghost easily matches GPH3silver for quality.
ReplayXD captures better footage in the most extreme situations.
GPH3black fails on every level except quality footage (only if handled like a new born baby).
Sony does 720@120fps better than GPH3.
Contour have always been more stylish but suffered from poor build quality in the early days.
VIO set the benchmark and is still the lightest (waiting for their recovery from GFC), I haven't given up that they will again be the best you can buy.
GoPro is for sheeple and wanna be heros - that is who they market to, the only professionals who use them do so for the money or product offered (sometimes because they can't get hold of the other brands).
In all the time GoPro have been players only twice have I rated them as "the camera to get" and that only ever lasted a few weeks at most.
The company is getting what they deserve.
Every person i have seen with a Go Pro in the surf has been a kook.
Can they not even go surfing and enjoy it for what it is without being vain.
C'mon people, live your life through your own eyes.Not through a camera lens.
And if you want to save money don't go surfing with them,you only have to see how many posts there are from people losing them.![]()
Maybe I'm not fussy enough!
I have a Hi8 video camera under my bed collecting dust that cost me $2000 when houses were worth $60000. For under $500 the Gopro is an awesome bit of gear to have and I'm sure that goes for it's competition also.
As for all the GoPro footage on the net, I love the rawness of them, sick to death of all the glossy overdone industry productions, my default position being if I don't like it I stop watching.
