Looks like another cracker from Chris Lilley. I find it close to unbelievable how many character types he can perform.

For everyone who enjoyed 'We Can Be Heroes' and 'Summer heights high'

A bit darker than Heroes or Summer Heights. Not as many laughs as the characters are not really likeable. Anyway they fit in with the show's title.

Good review Moby. Maybe it will open up after the characters establish themselves.

Other than heros (which was still patchy as) I simply don't get the rave about CL.

Not saying he's not talented. Comedy is the hardest disipline of all IMO, but he's too much in everything (at the expense of anyone getting any funny time) and he's pretty much just flogging the same jokes as heros still.

I just find his cat's bum face bloody annoying too and wanna see it slapped - HARD.

Needs to let some other talent shine instead of hogging writing/direction/all the (alegedly) good bits.

Give me more 'Rake' any day.

Watched it last night and barely had a laugh.

Felt some of the characters were more pathetic than funny.....not my idea of comedy.

May give it one more look, but was not that impressed. Wife thought it was cr*p.

I was busy twittering on the mobile and missed most of it. In fact I started twittering a strong negative reaction with people in the east 2hrs before it started here in the west.

I watched it for more than 2 minutes and thought it was crap. The show needed more funding cause it didn't have any explosions, hollywood style CGI special effects and it wouldn't surprise me if the main characters were all performed by the one actor. Cheapskates.

I know it was the first show of a 12 part series and 3 characters are yet to be introduced but I'm ready to write this one off.

I'll keep watching it and see how it goes. Hopefully Andrew Lilley turns it into an interesting story. He did this story on his own so its a big leap.

The hype may be too much as We can be Heroes wasn't heavily promoted and Summer Heights, while it was promoted was not as incredibly anticipated as Angry Boys.

It wasn't supposed to be all laughs. He was telling a story about the human condition. I thought 'Gran' was great. Ha 'Gotchya'.

He showed the light and dark sides of life. One minute Gran is being a racist bitch the next she was consoling upset prisoners.

Daniel was constantly writing off his deaf brother Nath but on the other hand he wanted to start a business with him and talking how he was great at skating.

I haven't seen the other series, looking forward to next week.

I think the 1st 2 series were better (so far that is). Angry Boys might develop OK, but my 1st impression wasn't particularly +ve. The 1st 2 have what I call the "cringe factor". That is, they cause one to sink back into one's chair and cringe, in the vain hope that no-one overseas will see it. Those 2 series hit the nail right on the head with respect to many Ozzie attributes and foibles. Kath & Kim did much the same - satirically portraying suburban Ozzies just so beautifully. True cringe material indeed

You want cringe, nothing beats 'Little Britain'. I wonder what their new series 'come fly with me' will be like. Pretty sure It won't be up to their original series stuff.

My step mother said she could not watch some of the later 'Little Britain' episodes..... It got too much, ha ha

Is there irony in bitchin about "Angry Boys"

The more the comedy on TV the better, especially since Australian comedies have all but disappeared since Fast Forward.

In the 80's we were a funny sarcastic nation, now we are a litigious bunch, where I have even seen someone threaten legal action on seabreeze. Anybody wanna get drunk and fight me on Australia day?

I watched it on iview today and wasn't expecting much but I have to agree with you Firie. He (Lilley) constantly seems to be able to raise the comedic bar on what should be really old and tired material (subject wise). Each to their own though I suppose.

Oz comedy?

Rake = GOLD (best Oz comedy in ages IMO and setting the wit high - not low and some real drama, pathos etc too)

Librarians = 1st season great (2nd season not so great)

Laid = not half bad (slow burn)

Small business = pretty good (same team as Librarians)

Never thought I'd say it but the Yanks are leading the way in comedy.

Parks and Recreation
30 Rock
Arrested development (bit old now)
Yank version of the Office
Party down

Are all waaaayyyy funnier than anything Lilley has done of late, yet they are all buried in late slots. Maybe most folks want dumb comedy like Earl etc in prime time? I don't get it.

Personally I never found Wilfred at all funny, but like everything, horses for courses. I actually reckon Angry boys is hilarious but I think with this series he's definitely gone for more traditional targets, IE taking the piss out of rappers; still I reckon S.Mouse will be classic through. I guess it depends if you find crude observational humour with tons of swearing funny, I do ^_^

Good list Funky some crackers on there, I agree whole heartedly!

*Arrested development (classic)

*30 Rock - awesome but I'm sort of over it now

*The us office was tragic for the first few epps as they copied the UK script word for word and it did not work one bit. Once they got towards the end of S1 it found it's feet and has been great.

*Parks and Rec - my current fave show - DJ Roombah in the house!

Best OZ comedy for a long long time has been Rake. Absolute gold! Nothing else I can think of even comes to mind, fairly barren landscape that one.
